if anything , the external drive should be formatted in USF2, that way nothing MAJOR has to be done for the ps3 to read the drive...USF2 is the ps3 native format....& it does files up to 2zb (in therory) so NTFS is nothing needed, plus the NTFS filesystem blows any how

pockets~ the Game_id thing has been resolved now...somone was able to code the BU manager as a teniis/sports game or sunmting
Over USB interface, filesystem type really isn't going to make that big a diffference, if any at all. USB2 transfer rates aren't very high to begin with. And using a filesystem that Windows recognizes natively brings ease of use for most people.

good to know the titles been fixed!
would be nice though if it was patched to read the actual games ID

i think ntfs would be better for compatibility between the pc and the external drive over the native ps3 file system.

i would much prefer though, to be able to boot the ps3 off an external usb hard drive formatted by the system to keep all my homebrew on and then when it is unplugged to boot off the internal one which would have no trace of anything relating to the psjb or homebrew applications.

exciting times ahead

PS3 file format is proprietary. Plus, watch your language. You're insulting more than 90% of the non-noobs here. Noobs like you I mean.

*IF* NTFS were to be used, it would make better use of transferring games, we already know Fat32 is limited to 4GB file size...so, as stated before, games that contain files that are over 4GB in size will NOT work from external drive. This can be an obstacle for people with a 20GB or 40GB PS3 forcing them to upgrade if they want a game like Final Fantasy XIII or Metal Gear Solid 4 on the internal drive. I am not sure which games have files over 4GB but wouldn't surprise me if it was one of the two i mentioned. Of course, even if they did make it where you use the PS3 file system, thats not so bad either....the Wii has WBFS and you can transfer games/ISOs to it using a PC so they could also develop a program for PC to transfer PS3 games/ISOs to an external hard drive as well...I personally don't care what format file system it uses as long as it works

I should be able to write data on UFS filesystem by using linux (with modified kernel). But I can't format using mkfs.ufs. I ran Ubuntu on VirtualBox, so maybe that's the problem. There is something wrong with my HDD (sometimes Windows can't boot and I don't hear the HDD working) so if I'll buy a new one, I will install Ubuntu. Maybe someone will write an app, that allow to format in UFS/UFS2 under Windows for PSjb purposes. UFS is such an old filesystem. Even gnome partition manager can't format into it. The only way is ufsutils for linux. So it would be awesome if backup manager could support NTFS, but I'm afraid that won't be possible.

What is the point of formating your hdd with UFS if the jailbreak won't recognize it??

Has someone tested it? that psjb doesn't recognize UFS formatted drive? PS3 HDD is probably formatted in UFS2, so why not?
