PS3 Firmware 3.42 Issues

If preventing the block of PSgroove was not enough reason to not update, here is another good reason to why not update to PS3 FW 3.42. According to online reports numerous users are reporting a plethora of problems consisting of: sound issues, games not even loading or constantly crashing (such as MW2, BF2BC, and Madden 2011). Some users are even reporting their PS3's just frozen, and constantly looping after update!

Looks like Sony's rush to release a emergency security update, has come back and bitten them in the arse.

This is most excellent! This means they broke "something" in the fix since it didn't make itself apparent in previous versions (Except around the time the bricking-fiasco occurred when GTA IV came out; hmm now that I think about it, I wonder if that had something to do with USB stuff as well). Either way, maybe it's something that can used; or at least be able to track which sections of code they're working on giving a good indication for good places to attack as those sections may be unstable. Obviously sound was affected.

Off the top of my head, I'd say emulate a usb sound card that has no audio capabilities and when the bootup sound occurs and tries to play through a card that has no audio descriptors, *poof*. But that's purely just a guess and sound-init probably occurs much later in the bootup process; it also depends on the usb sound card taking precedence over the integrated onboard card -- but if they worked on the USB portion of the code and sound is cutting in and out and in some cases not-working at all, it might be possible. *shrug*

They'll likely make a patch to the sound; or come up with a better fix. Depending on the cause it might be easier for them to just make a sound code patch. Either way, great news!

lol i'm still waiting to see if a clever hacker will take a look at the magicjack as a possible port as it's eeprom and the chip is hynix hy27us and you can pick one up for 20 to 30 bucks at your local walmart or drug store it's got a chip very similiar to a cell phone but it doesn't cost 150 to 300 or more dollars and you don't have to order it off the net so it would allow people without alot of money or credit cards to get in on the action. don't think people will be running to buy an iphone once the port comes out. I'm ready to be flamed now. lmao
