The PS3 can now boot Playstation 3 backups. In order to do this you must jailbreak your PS3. Only works till firmware 3.41 (those on 3.42 you are out of luck, no you cant downgrade, no we dont know when CFW is available). Just note that you should use this for your own legal backups, do not pirate games, its lame and wrong.

Jailbreak your PS3:

There are multiple ways to jailbreak your PS3, you can either buy a USB Modchip (costs money), or you can make your own (recommended).

If you are making your own, which is cheaper better and recommended, then you will be jailbreaking your PS3 with something called PSGroove (AKA PSFreedom).

PSGroove can be ported to various devices (such as phones, calculators), it can also be flashed on USB Boards which range from $20-$40.

• Here is a list of all compatible phones you can jailbreak your PS3 with. Use your iPhone/iTouch to hack your PS3 here.
• Here is a list of all the USB Boards you can use (all hex files there). Find the tutorial you want to flash with here.
• Hack your PS3 with the TI-84 Calculator here.
• There is no PSP port yet, we don't know when.

If you want to buy a modchip/clone, there is a resource list here. Beware of fakes, not all products may support or be worth the money.

Once you jailbreak your PS3:

So once you have jailbroken your PS3 (see the other various guides on how to start your PS3 with exploit PROPERLY), the next step is to download the proper tools on your PS3 to boot ISO's. At this point you can pretty much load any homebrew up.

The only tool you really need is something called "Backup Manager".The download to backup manager is illegal, so we will not link it to you. You can learn to make your own stealth backup manager here.

Simply copy the backup manager to a USB stick, and start your PS3 up with exploit - go to "Install Package File" option and install the backup manage to your PS3. It should make a new game icon showing backup manager:

From there just follow what the application says and its easy from there .

Some notes on booting ISO's:

• You can only dump games to internal PS3 HDD.
• Games can NOT be transferred from external USB to internal PS3 HDD.
• Games can run off of external USB drive, but the drive must be in FAT32 format (some games do not work on external).
• You can transfer PS3 game dumps from your PC to PS3 via PS3FTP application. Download here. Tutorial Here.
• You can also burn your PS3 games to a BR-R or DVD-R/DL, tutorial here (fixes most game problems that do not work).

Please remember to never pirate games, you should only use this information as a learning guide to make your OWN game backups.

what about if a game requires updating that I have copied to my external hd..how do I update the game or bypass the update?

Hi I got one question:

I've heared that the brand new game "F1 2010" from Codemasters is one of the first games to require firmware version 3.42. When I saw that the new version of "Open Manager" v1.13 fixed some problems with several games they also named F1 2010. So is it possible to play that game on a jailbreaked console? Can you bypass the firmware check of the game? Thanks for your reply!!
