Well PSN is important to some people, especially someone in clan battles, or have friends that they can talk to that moved away. It sucks but if you want the best of both worlds then you need 2 machines. I dont agree with you pockets now that the first major hole was found Im sure another will be found.

i would never risk updating, for the simple fact that you might never be able to run hombrew app's, free backups, and a whole comunity of hackers/hombrew designers that will turn that ps3 into a PS3!! I see your point BobbyBlunt, but there are so many solutions for that, the ps3 is not even an option (the part of communicating with your friends)
about clans you have a point there.
so you think another hole will be found, you are very wrong (i hope you are not) but in the xbox 360 only had one exploit found in 2006 and that was it no more exploits no more hacks never, we are in 2010.

One exploit on 360? That is horrible. I'm not familiar with the 360 but was this exploit needed for the drive flashing and custom firmware and whatnot? I think there will be another hole found because of how deep we are in the system. LVL2 with ftp to read flash and other aspects of the ps3. I really do think another hole can and will be found. I own 2 systems and will enjoy the benefits of both, just pray this ends up like the psp. A new hole every four or five firmwares.

The prologue to GT5 is, unfortunately, a game which requires you to be signed into psn to play regardless... so you wont be able to update without signing in... Dont update to 3.42, just wait a while and maybe some more homebrew coming out in the coming weeks could create a work around for you.
