You cant legaly sell ripped DVD's, its done and the local authorities turn a blind eye, but they do have raids on regular basis, but Russia is a big country, its hard keeping tabs on everything, this ban if it is a ban at all, will not affect anyone in Russia.

Going online requires firmware 3.42. This is mandatory.
Currently this exploit works on version 3.41 only.

If you update to go online, you lose functionality. Regardless if you deleted backup manager or not.

What!? Im Russian and how could they do this? Im sure Russia just wants SONY to pay them big money to ban all PSjailbreaks, but Im also sure the government doesnt care what other people do or sell, so Im pretty sure there are going to be lots of modded PS3s in Russia.

Informational letter

Non-commercial association for counteraction for computer-related crimes (ACCC) who represents 'Sony Computer
Entertainment' informs below about the following:

Beginning second half of August 2010 ACCC officers revealed cases of proliferation of pirated copies
of games for SONY Playstation 3 as well as devices which allow playing these pirated games.

Please note that any method of distribution counterfeit games for SONY Playstation 3 is illegal.
It is also illegal to manufacture, use and sale of any technical means to neutralize
the defense against the the use of pirated products.

According to Russian legislation, games for TV consoles are a subject of copyright protection.
The use of intellectual property (including software) if such use is undertakn without consent of
copyright owner is illegal and is punishable according to Criminal Code,
Code of Administrative violations and Civil Code of Russian Federation.

The laws of Russian Federation give ACCC wide range of methods to fight this illegal activity
including termination of such activity and payment of compensation of up to 5 million rubles.

Article 146 of Criminal code of Russian Federation prosecutes for such criminal activity for up to
6 years in prison. Lately, there has been an increased number of court sentences
where the violators of copyright were accused and sentenced to imprisonment in the correctional
facilities.

Administrative responsibility for illegal use of subjects of copyright laws is cited
under article 7.12 of the Code of Administrative violations which includes high fines
and confiscation of objects violating the copyright.

Any activity of distribution of counterfeit games and technical tools for jailbreaking the gaming
consoles is illegal. Given all the above, you strongly urge you to refrain from any activity
which violate the copyrights of SONY Computer Entertainment.

ACCC officers undertake regular inspections of commercial objects and in cases of any violations
of laws will without any warnings contact the law enforcement agency.
