Post [RELEASE] NZHawk's Awesome MountPoint Manager v1.1

So, after a few days messing with the SDK, I have now created my first homebrew app for the PS3.

What?

This Awsome MountPoint Manager is pretty much like the existing backup manager, with one major difference! You can choose any folder on any device on you PS3 to use as the mounted disk.

Why?
I wanted to mess around with the SDK that was 'avaliable' and it was a good learning curve! (Pretty much the first time ive coded in C++) and it was a challenge! (24 hours with no sleep )

How to Use?
  1. Download and install my app
  2. Browse to the location that you store your PS3 backups (does not have to be LAUN12345/GAMEZ anymore!)
  3. Make sure you have highlighted the folder that CONTAINS the game to be mounted (Not inside the game folder!)
  4. Press the right button on the D-Pad
  5. Double check that you have selected the folder that CONTAINS the game!! Then press the right D-Pad button again.
  6. The app will now exit to the XMB, and you *should* see the game where the Blu Ray Game usually is
Done!

Oh:
Will this brick my PS3 like that fake psp emulator?

Im not that mean :P, So no.

[UPDATED] Version 1.1 Released!

YouTube - NZHawk's Awesome MountPoint Manager 1.1

1.1
  • Completely Re-designed
  • Cool Text Transitions
  • Remap any DIR to any DIR
  • Makes use of Kakaroto's syscall35
  • More which I cant remember..
Have a look at the video for the new XMB inspired gui, some may like it, others may not.
Note!: You must have a payload capable of syscall35 (IE: KaKaRoTo's PL3 + the new groove)

A few people seem to think that the firmware loader by Jaicarab does some magic behind the scenes, it only remaps the dev_flash to the dev_usbxxx. You can do exactly the same with this! Niether one is better, although with AMPM, there is more flexability (remapping single folders in the flash for instance )

You do not need to have a disc in the drive to get this to work I was able to select a game and boot off the app_home/ps3_game/ on the XMB without any problems.

I also tried to boot batman arkham asylum without a disc as I know it needs a disc in the drive for it to boot and it still will not boot without any disc in the drive.

You're a champ ! This works very well. However, the font is really small, i had to walk up close to the TV to see where i was going, and there is no icon preview so those who have not renamed their folders will have to know the BLxxx ID or guess

Nice work tho !

Is there a way to backup games or is this just a launcher?

Great work!

but I am wondering why this app is so big (filesize). 10MB of C++ code is pretty much for a "simple mount manager" and it's much bigger then all the other apps ... why?

Maybe he included a lot of extra libraries he didn't really need? If he was rushed, and new to it, quite possible there is a lot of extra fat that can be trimmed.

So is it right to conclude the "official" backup manager is nothing more than a program executer using the launcher function?? and games are copied using standard fs operations, which can be done outside as per the Awesome file manager?? So really Backup manager actually doesn't do anything special with regard to 'unprotecting' or decrypting the games?

Will this run backed up games without the blu-ray disc on a 1.0 psgroove? Reason of my question is because I was unlucky to get a PS3Break that is not updatable. Thanks!
