In the United States, a new law proposal called The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) was introduced last week, and there will be a hearing in front of the Judiciary Committee this Thursday.

If passed, this law will allow the government, under the command of the media companies, to censor the internet as they see fit, like China and Iran do, with the difference that the sites they decide to censor will be completely removed form the internet and not just in the US.

Stop the Internet Blacklist!

Just the other day, President Obama urged other countries to stop censoring the Internet. But now the United States Congress is trying to censor the Internet here at home. A new bill being debated this week would have the Attorney General create an Internet blacklist of sites that US Internet providers would be required to block.
This is the kind of heavy-handed censorship you'd expect from a dictatorship, where one man can decide what web sites you're not allowed to visit. But the Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to pass the bill this week -- and Senators say they haven't heard much in the way of objections! That's why we need you to sign our urgent petition to Congress demanding they oppose the Internet blacklist.

what does this mean to all of you, all those sites you like to go on for "backups" will be gone, hell they could even block this site and ones like it as they talk about hacking

i dont care what they are trying to censor they have no right to tell people what sites they can and cant go on, no one does

I think they have worked before, but not on this kind of subject, hell how can someone proclaim democracy in a country when there is people in the back trying to pass bills like this...

indeed it is bud, but if they do like it says in the OP:

there is no tor, or vpn or proxys to saves us.

Enforcing such a law, would really encourage banned people to upload crap to such places as banks, newspapers/magazines and have them banned too.

Yet, wouldn’t such a rule ruin the idea of internet totally? Did I hear Lockednet? After all inter means amongst... in some countries prostitution is a crime, so would this pimping on the internet, I assume.
