Playing games off an external drive
Hi, because there has been a lot of confusion, I would like to jsut clarify that you CAN play your ps3 games off the EXTERNAL DRIVE.
My setup is 1tb external USB HDD powered by an external power source. All of my games work perfectly, and for those that dont, if i put a disc in the drive, they work great. Like Heavy Rain etc. I have an 80gb ps3 so its not ideal for me to boot from internal. The root on my usb device is like this: D:/GAMEZ/BLUS30453(this being the game folder with the extracted files) That is it. Games that have worked so far: dead rising 2 god of war 3 heavy rain LBP super street fighter IV Castlevania LOS Tekken 6 BLAZBLUE |

For games like Tekken, unzip the PSARC that is too big to go onto fat32 and then RAR it up so it downsizes and stick it into the right folder in fat32 and unrar it in there, it shud work fine (:

Thank you! This helps alot. I was actually thinking of finding this out but you answered my question perfectly. Because my brother has an external hdd and I was thinking of asking him if we can use it for games since I am pretty sure he never uses it. Infact one time he admitted to saying he forgot he had it. My brother is kind of a moron, he also is very selfish so I doubt he'll let me use it. But since he never comes anywhere near the ps3 I could probably take it secretly and he'd never know. lol ANYWAY XD sorr for the ramble...and thanks again for showing off that externals work. Because I only have a 8gb usb...and I cant hold really anything on it. It only really can hold one game at a time. Since most are over 5 gig...I was in the middle of downloading Castlevania I do know thats 11 gig give or take. So his external should be able to hold that with no trouble.

About the external HDDs. They still have to be FAT32 right?

I seem to be having trouble
![]() I have a 1TB external, formated to FAT32. In the root directory, I place a folder named "GAMEZ" Within that folder, I place the folder with the Game ID. I plug it into my PS3. None of the backup managers seem to detect the HDD. What am I missing? |
