Hey all,

Finally decided to make the jump from OPL to TI-89 method.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but here's what I've been doing, with the following setup:
- PS3 Fat-60GB
- No disc in drive
- 3.15 firmware
- TI-89 Titanium

I updated my TI-89 Titanium to OS 3.10 (the latest according to the ti website, and according to http://brandonw.net/ps3jb89/). I then "installed" the ps3jb89 to the calculator with TI Connect. I checked my calculator's OS, followed by clicking HOME and then going to VAR-LINK and selecting ps3jb89), then typing ")", and then hitting ENTER to go into the app. I then turned off my ps3 with the switch on back, then flipped the switch back on. Then I plugged my USB cable into the ps3, then into the calculator, then hit F1 on the ps3jb89 app. Then I did the power button + eject thingy, and then my calculator displayed something along the lines of this on its LCD display after displaying a buncha things before it:

State: p3_wait_enumerate
State: p3_ready
State: p2_wait_disconnect
State: p4_wait_reset
State: p4_wait_enumerate
State: p4_ready
State: p5_wait_reset
State: p5_wait_enumerate
State: p3_wait_disconnect
State: p5_wait_disconnect

Also, no signal/noXMB on the tv. Is it because I have fw3.15 on the ps3? I figured this, and then the 3rd or 4th time, I dragged to the calculator the file located on this page: http://brandonw.net/ps3jb89/fwcompat.php for fw3.15, and in the ps3jb89's options, I typed in "fwc315" in the FW Compat. box, and hit enter twice, then esc to go back, and rechecked it again to make sure...

What am I missing to get this entire thing done? I'm following all the steps seen on here to install the files: http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=13380, and even adding the "firmware compatibility files that's suggested by http://brandonw.net/ps3jb89/ (http://brandonw.net/ps3jb89/fwcompat.php for fw3.15). Should I just update to 3.41 so that I don't have to deal with the various fw compatibility files, or is it possible to do it on 3.15?

Also, why doesn't my ps3 boot into XMB after doing the various steps above?

Thanks for helping a nub. I know this is alot to ready, and I really appreciate it y'all, and hope that I can join in the fun soon enough.

Thanks again!

Hm... I am trying to get a hold of a TI-89 Titanium to play with. So I do not know your issues at the moment.

I would recommend to move onto 3.41 firmware since its more compatible for most jailbreaking processes and there is no real reason to stay below that now.

Would updating to 3.41fw affect my usage of OPL 0.7?

Great! So where do I get 3.41 without going to the newest one? So many sites out there, but they all seem fishy.

put the PS3UPDAT.PUP into the "x:\PS3\UPDATE" folder on your flash drive

Then go to update, just choose that you want to update from a USB, media, etc..

First off i`d like to say thank you whipster for making this thread is of most usefulness to me! A suggestion i would like to share is maybe you could post under the application a description of what each application does special. For example maybe a certain backup manager plays a specific game like `medal of honor`.

Great...so I will be updating my PS3 from 3.15 to 3.41 then.... You're sure that it won't affect my OPL 0.7 booting via SM3.6, right?

You don't have to update. You're applying the jailbreak incorrectly. The proper steps for the 89-TI (on 3.15) are:

1) Load the payload and FW COMPAT files on your TI, along with the PS3JB89 app.

2) Load the PS3JB89 app (sounds like you know how to do this)

3) Choose "DEF315.89y" for your stage 1, and the 315 FW COMPAT for your compatibility (I forgot the name)

4) Plug in the calculator and press F1 to start the jailbreak.

IMPORTANT STEPS***

5) AFTER you have run the jailbreak and you have the calculator plugged in, power cycle the PS3 (off then on with the power switch)

6) Immediately press "Power" then "Eject" AFTER you see the red power light come back on once you flip the power switch back on.

Everything should work after that. If you have any more questions, let us know. Good luck!

BTW-
Whipster,
I have a TI-89 Titanium Payload Collection thread over at PSX-Scene in case anyone asks. It also has a lot of info throughout the thread for first timers.

I'm also trying to get an all-in-one tool together that will compile PL3 payloads for both the TI-89 and the TI-84+. I'll let you know when I have it done.

Great! Thanks! The files that are here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f178/ti-...lection-69822/, are what you're talking about, right? Also, I just type in "DEF315.89y" for Stage 1, and "fw315.89" or watever for the FW COMPAT, and it should correctly use the files, right? Btw, what are "DEF/DEV" files? Additionally, what does "Device 6" mean, and how (if needed) do I to use it?

Sorry for the zillion questions--I just have no idea what any of this hi-tech lingo means. I admit that I'll prolly have zero contributions when it comes to the techside, but if there's any games you want me to try out, I'll try my best to contribute in that fashion

Thanks for your help mang!

Cool! It works! I see this under the game tab: "*(it's a star) /app_home/PS3 GAME/" and "*( it's a star) Install Package Files" !! Now what do I do? I'm still lost on the loader and all that stuff, where do I go from here? Also, what do recommend to use (are they called apps here? or emulators? or loaders? not sure what the general term for them is; e.g. for ifcaro's isoloader they were called .ELF files).

Thanks for your help again mang! In the meantime I'll be browsing psx scene and haxnetwork to see if I can find what I need, and will edit this post afterwards, unless you get to it first and have a suggestion :P

Thanks again!!
