SONY Rep said "You will probably be banned"

I was just on the phone with a SONY rep and he connected me with one of the higher ups who was able to explain the "Jailbreaking" case more clearly.

SONY won't be persuing you if you Jailbreak your console in a country where it's legal, HOWEVER the following applies to ALL Jailbroken consoles:

- It will NOT be serviced at an official Service area for PS3 repair if it is detected that it has been Jailbroken. This means your warranty means nothing.

- "You will probably be banned". Even though it's legal in some countries, your console will still be banned if it is found to be Jailbroken. I went as far as asking specifically about the US, and he said it applies to the US as well, and all other countries.

So everyone sign off, don't accept the new ToS, and hope for the best in the future.

No problem.

It's their job to answer questions, I wasn't surprised at all. However it would have been nice if they actually listened to US laws and kept the US out of their ban waves (along with other countries) -_-

Did he say that the console would be banned, or the account? It makes a huge difference; if it is just the account, then you can always get another. If it is the console being banned, then we will just start cloning other systems...and then Sony will have to stop banning because every system ID they ban will belong to a non-jb console.

So.. if you want to go online just format the entire harddrive... start over, upgrade, no trace of a jailbroken PS3.. problem solved. Otherwise, don't go online.

sony's loss not ours , I wonder If they noticed all the sales they got when jailbreakers got back on PSN, cause I know alot of people bought store content & games . they should have just made it so that jailbreakers only can play with other jailbreakers online .

yes not possible/pratical although not allowing backups online would be nice, they could allow store purchases and browsing, but no backups online that would be the correct stance in my opinion.
