i just read that the new ps3 slims w/ the gt5 bundle were not affected w/ the blu-rays going down. i just got a new tv w/ the ps3 bundle and got my e3 card reader in the mail today and was going to jailbreak and downgrade when i read that the blurays go down and my wife would kill me so i saw today that e3 had a supposed fix for it but not confirmed. someone posted that the slims were not suffering from this so my question is do i just follow instructions and downgrade , then jailbreak , or do i use the hex file provided by e3 or just wait a few days to see whats going on. I would love if my ps3 slim is not affected , can anyone confirm thanks

No the slims aren't affected. The slims boot from vsh on the hard drive and the fats (most of them) boot from a 256mb nand in the console's internal memory. So if you downgrade a slim you won't lose bluray playback.

It's not that big of a deal because even if you DID lose bluray playback, as long as you did a backup before then you can just restore it.

At any rate I would make a backup anyway because losing bluray isn't the worst thing that could happen... losing all your DATA is the worst thing that could happen.

It's extremely rare... but blessed are the pessimists: for they have made backups.

ok i am going to finally downgrade and then jailbreak, but i want to backup first , how do i do this , im guessing i downgrade w/ e3 first, then jailbreak, then what to backup, and then how do i transfer games to hd thanks
