You need to modify the kernal in order to run backups and the MFW we have now only adds the installation of signed pkg files and the kernal is left unchanged.....just wait untill someone releases a new MFW that has the ability to boot games from the hard drive then we'll get our backup manager

im not asking for anyone to do anything...
but if people r making the trouble to bypass ps3 security...at least make it some use of it.

And what i ment was that sony is bloking my right to do backups.
If one of my discs gets broken or sratch or whatever...is sony going to buy me a new one?

Everybody here says, "we don't condone piracy!" Completely understandable to say to cover your butt from a legal perspective. But when this site really grew, probably quadrupled in traffic or more, was when psjailbreak (original) first came out in September. Why? Backup Manager. Why all the talk about using it before was ok, but not now escapes me. Maybe because that was someone else's software, and they are already taking the fall for it. I'm just hoping here, that there are still some devs out there with both balls left, that can release a new version that will be compatable with a CFW. Flame if you want, just trying to be real.

And if, why do we want to run unsigned code? Isn't it another step TOWARDS Sony when using PSN? I mean a signed package is harder to find as a magically running unsigned executable, isn't it? Maybe I just didn't understand the messed-up article correctly. Someone enlighten me please.

In my eyes "homebrew" was possible after fail0verflow and GeoHot's hello world signed homebrew demo. Either the author completely got it wrong and should have said "A further step to piracy" instead of "HomeBrew", or I got it wrong.

basicly what he did was bypass security shecking for official software and install a homebrew that say "geohot".

and what all these people in this forum want (and dont be hypocrites) is a backup manager that works on 3.55

And once again i remember people...we have the right do backup everything we buy.

Piracy its another matter. And Sony buy combating piracy is blocking our right to do backups.

Hopefully when the time comes that we are able to play backups, I hope developers block accessing PSN using backed up games leggaly/illegally.

Well, first off: in Germany we don't have the right to backup owned digital media if it's protected/secured in any way.

And still, you're not completely right. Sure there is a ****load of people in this forum who only want to have OBM for 3.55 and don't care about anything else. But the initial idea of all of the hacks (excluding PSJailbreak) was bringing OtherOS back to the PS3 and there definitely are a bunch of people waiting for the Linux install, XBMC, useful homebrew software etc. and not primarily condone privacy.

As for the topic author: please let someone else post your news next time. Your syntax is horrible, misleading and hardly readable without misunderstanding.
