i used partition magic

make sure u set a drive letter or it wont work,as i found out

do i need to change the " allocation " or leave it on 32768?

I tried for just the hell of it to partion the hard drive for just 2tb formatted to fat32 and that still did not work ether hmmmm
Did you try formatting like 1.5tb/1.5tb in the end? If so did it work well?

Linux approach
Code:
mkfs.vfat /dev/sdX1
X = the letter of the drive you would like to format.
1 = the partition on the desired drive.

1.5 and 2 TB formats well and works as external HDD, and sometimes as "internal" through PS3 HDXT depending on its sleep mode.

3 TB however is ignored.

leave it the same. that is what i did. and everything works fine.

I found Hiren's BootDVD 14.1 handy (available via p2p bit torrent) because it included MiniXP to boot into. So that from there you can use these executables in the command prompt. This is handy for those that don't have a copy of windows around.
