The biggest mistake Waninkoko made was announcing the release time for his CFW. I followed it here and on psx-scene and even people who didn't know how to use the dos command promt (...) or open the dos screen with the command CMD tried to make the CFW with the patch, knowing the patched pup file would be on a fileshare site within half an hour
It almost looked like a running game who would be the first person with his CFW.Just publish it on a git and slowly let people know it is there, but even then if people warn about bricking other people still try to flash it. ![]() Patience is a strange word in this faster and faster going world. I had the CFW within minutes after the release of the patch and I have waited for 2 days to see if it was stabile or not (ok, affraid to flash ) and I am glad I did wait. Very happy with kmeaw CFW atm but like to see if this V2 doesn't brick and brings more than kmeaw

While I and most others in the scene appreciate all the hard work that the devs put in to bring us free choices and new features it still is no excuse for lack of testing and blatant disregard of mistakes on his part. It is also however no excuse for the people who bricked to blame him solely for what happened. As you say, it is down to the end user to make their own decision to install or pass up on the Cfw, they saw the bricks appearing, heard warnings and carried on regardless. Their choice, their responsibility to as you say should man up and take it in their stride. I just think that Waninkoko could have been a little more careful and not put so many more at risk just to feed his desire to be first.

I'm sure Waninkoko tested it before he releases his CFW. But there are so many variation of the PS3 hardware. Don't expect him to be like paid software developers who pay others to do alpha, beta testing. This is a brave man that tries to answer the call for CFW even though Sony might target him next. He does it for free.
When he releases it, its released in good faith. No one of the right mind and with a deep sense of pride would release something in his name that would lead to bricks. No software is guaranteed to be 100% brick free. Remember the recent 3.5 downgrader that causes certain PS3 to lose its BD playback function i.e. semi-brick. Some times, users are at fault for not following the instruction fully. I'm sure he feels bad causing brick and is working on a solution to rescue the bricks. He has sacrificed a lot working for free, can't you guys just give him some words of encouragement. A lot of good and talented people leaves because they feel unappreciated. I'm sure many of you want him to be the next. If you want to be 100% sure that there is no brick, then be patient and wait for a perfect one. In the meantime, you can still use your PS3. |

Its the impatience of so many people that has caused the bricking of ps3's. I for one have waited out the storm and found out that my serial was good for the go. I updated and I am now on waninkoko's firmware and running alright. Not the best in anyway but better then the others as far as compatibility issues. I have tried them all, frozen on most but his hardly does so I will not hesitate to upgrade to his at all.......Of course until I wait and be patient before a fatal error occurs.

Tks
I feel sorry for those who briked their consoles using the waninkoko's first released (before the nand list came out), but for those who brick'ed their consoles AFTER the list was out and even after all the warning's. for those i can only say, next time read the whole thing !!!
Waninkoko drop the first bomb in the scene (BM) and we all should respect his work. |

But he could of said "Dont use this on 256mb NAND's". It's obvious it will not work with the address space set as it is. |

I think it's obvious it wasn't tested enough. Having said that, guys who bricked. We can all appreciate how ****ty that is but this type of thing is likely to become more common with open tools and keys in the public domain. I followed the thread for a while and retained my 3.41 JB. When I was 100% SURE this worked for my model of console CECHJ fat PS3 I patched and it worked perfectly. Waninkoko worked fine for me and I have been able to switch back and forth to OFW, Kmeaw. I do all my updates via system recovery, never xmb. So for those who lost a console, don't let the hype/excitement of the moment ruin a console. If you consider how long you're going to own and use the console for and how much it costs, what's a few days?
Maybe there will be a brick fix eventually, custom jig NAND flash or something, until then patience and discretion with custom firmware. Once you decide to hack something, you must accept that all may be lost, just my humble opinion. |
