The advantage here vs the POT method is the precision; this isn't just high and low...it is lower than normal and faster than fan test, and everywhere in between. The Brazilian video used a 12-turn trimmer to try to get around this, and nearly achieved the accuracy of a single-turn POT, but they still don't have the highs nor the lows, and you have to open the system to adjust it. As for difficulty, the only challenging parts are making that large c-shaped ground rail from solder and getting the bottom resistor bent and soldered into place correctly.

here is how mine looks. (no need to open case to adjust it)
ime still going to give your method ago.
also it can controll the fan in any way (like really fast, or slow or in the middle ect..)

Is there any way to monitor the temperatures? How do you know you don't have the fan too low?

Mine ramps up pretty quickly, changed the paste a couple of times, no real difference and it doesn't feel like it's getting that hot I'm almost convinced it's a faulty temp sensor.

CHEERS KILLER
ALTHOUGH IVE ALREADY DONE MINE WITH JUST THE 2 WIRES AND A 2OOK POT IM GNA HAVE A GO AT THIS, AS ITS REAL HARD TO GET THE POT EXACTLY WERE YOU NEED IT, ONLY NEEDS THE VERY SLIGHEST KNOCK TO GO FROM SLOW TO FULL SPEED ID REALY LIKE MORE CONTROL OVER IT.
THANKS BUD.

PS oops caps soz

This circuit does not have a "sweet spot"; that is the whole point of using PWM. You could monitor temperatures using a thermistor, but I had a simpler method. I just turned it up slowly until the exhaust air was almost the same temperature as the intake air, while a friend played GT4 with an automatic rocket launcher that overloaded the system to the point of the game running at about 2FPS. If the exhaust air is cool, then the fan is doing all it needs to do and it needs to go no faster...if a system is overheating for some issue other than the fan (such as bad thermal grease), even running the fan faster than the "Fan Test" will not help.

If you already have a 100K POT mounted in your system, the most difficult part is already done (taking power tools to your precious case) .

BTW...a few people mentioned that they were interested in other internal mods. I actually developed a few other internal mods a while back that I never published; I might have to put a couple online.

Really thought by now jailbroke consoles would have an onscreen way to control the fan settings.

Actually control of the fan and overclocking the hypervisor were two of the things I move looked forward to from a hacked system.

Do you plan on selling these?

Also will a N914/1N4148 Switching Diode work?

Honestly, I figured that this would be in CFWs as well; but the software hackers are spending most of their time fighting sony and trying to stay on the PSN, so it there are still a lot of CFW-type things that I am expecting just as soon as Sony stops f**king with us. In case anyone is wondering, the fan speed can be controlled by firmware updates; I confirmed this on my own "40GB" system when I updated to 3.41 and my fan speed dropped about 10%.

The 1N4148 should work fine.

I actually was selling these for $20 each (on a printed circuit board), but my supplier really screwed me over on the last order...they took over two months to ship, and they screwed up the boards royally (on previous orders they were only taking 3 weeks to ship, and the boards were perfect...using the same Gerber files!)...so I now have a big pile of worthless PCBs. I have another order in with another manufacturer, and I hope to see those boards sometime in the next two weeks. It is just a sample shipment of 50 boards because I am a bit paranoid about ordering a lot of boards after last time. If you need one ASAP, I can still make them by hand, and I do so when someone requests one...I just don't like doing it because it takes a long time to make each circuit. Also, the PCB versions look a lot more professional. If you are in urgent need and you cannot solder it yourself, I sell the hand-soldered versions for $30 each, and I ship anywhere that the US post office will let me (air mail is generally about $5 to most countries, faster services cost a lot more. Domestic orders are shipped by priority mail, at a cost of $5.20 including the box). If you are in need, PM me.
