None break DMCA. The keys that are shared are public keys not private. Please do research before stating that one or two break DMCA. I just hope that the Library of congress steps in and adds an exception to DMCA for Console hacking that is not done for the purpose of piracy, but rather for adding a feature that was removed and adding homebrew.

Sony are kind of like a singer you used to like.. but when you met him in person, he turned out to be a total f***hole. You still like the songs, but not the person.
Same for me with Sony. I still love playing Uncharted and God of War etc, even though they are the aforementioned f***holes. |

This may become true in the eyes of the law depending on the result of the gh case, but as of this moment in time homebrew does not, legally or otherwise. circumvent the measures. They are using their own opinion of what is legal to sway the authorities to back them. EDIT I would also imagine that they are using the excuse that the PS3 is a closed system. If they are then I wonder how they are getting around the fact that until OtherOS was removed it was not closed? It would be nice to know if this is what they are claiming as anyone still on an OFW that includes OtherOS would have to be exempt from any claim of circumvention I believe as their console is still open as per Sonys design? i kinda meant host where there is no way sony could take it down whatever they tried. as they found a way to take it down from gitorious .. its a sad day when you need to use torrents to share legal code..

Unbelievable. Simply... unbleievable.
I can no longer support a company that uses it's corporate strength to bully, intimidate and silence it's userbase, not to mention use, and abuse the legal system for it's own benefit. Sony as a whole has proven several times in the past they cannot be trusted, the laptop battery problem, not to mention the CD rootkit fiasco proved that all too well. I mean, Sony said at one time that they would "take whatever steps it needs to protect itself and protect its revenue streams... It will not lose that revenue stream, no matter what... Sony is going to take aggressive steps to stop this. We will develop technology that transcends the individual user." That was in 2001. Look what they're doing ten years later. The PlayStation 3. Not only are they removing advertised features, but they're behaving as though even though you pay for the console, you have no right to do anything with it, at least not anything THEY don't feel you should. Piracy aside (That part of it all I can understand, BUY the games, don't be cheapasses), what you do with the console is and should be of no concern to anyone else, least of all Sony. They need to realize they're burning the hands that are feeding them, and I for one have decided to stop doing so, I've sold off my console, as well as my PSP and PS2. I am never buying another product with a Sony label again. I'm sure a few agree, others probably thinking 'tl;dr', it's all good. Considering the possible consequences to what's going on, I had to say something about it. |
