OtherOS class-action lawsuit: Sony gets charged same thing as Geohot

Sony is now facing a lawsuit for the removal of OtherOS from the PS3. The proceedings are being conducted under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act - the same charge as Geohot. Oh the irony. The case is Sony violated the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act by the removal of Linux from PS3.

ha ha ha

when you read some of the stuff these corporations come out with its a joke i know whenever you buy a sony product send a letter to the CEO saying as Sony have "bought" money of you for a sony product you want to stay in the guys house till the warranty on your money has run out

thats how stupid the sony arguement is and when i bought my ps3 it never said you can only use linux for one year or we will only support it for one year

Umm, didn't they already have this lawsuit? This isn't the same one that was "swept under the rug" last year?

your warranty rules don't count in Europe Sony!
We have a law that warranty is about estimated life time and not about the years "given" by the manufacturer.

For the rest is it a very lame excuse to steal from your customers....
Just ask your customers what they want then you know it. Simple assuming we don't use it so you can remove it makes no sense at all.

I want to see how Sony convince the judge that something it had when you bought it can in any way be described as a 'Special Purpose'?

That's like saying the ability to play an MP3 on a Sony Erricson cell phone is a special purpose, and then taking that ability away. If any judge decides in their favour over this one then I'd like to see the judges bank details and make a note of the mysterious 'donation' they received lol.

From a business standpoint (especially now), Sony will most likely opt to pay out a settlement rather than reinstate OtherOS functionality. I personally can't see them giving that feature back (which would be a public admission of guilt, and make their image appear worse than it already does). Their MO is to keep things hush and pay a little legal expense rather than make right on their wrongdoing. Owners of PS3's which were previously capable of OtherOS may get a little compensation out of this judgement, but I'd bet on the fact that aside from AsbestOS (and similar), you'll never see OtherOS return to the PS3 (at least not by Sony that is).

Fixed your link Pirate.

So if my warranty has ran out then I can load homebrew and whatever I like on MY ps3! Sony are full of it!

:aetsch:

You dont sell someone something then take it away at your leasure with some crappy excuse!

I hope GEOHOT kicks your asses in court and he tells the real reason why the PS3 was hacked in the 1st place.... You took OtherOS away from people then blackmailed us with the (if you dont remove it you cant use PSN)

Hope you loose loads of money on your games and that everyone hacks there ps3s :thefinger:
