No more rootkey?
On his Twitter account, PlayStation 3 hacker KaKaRoToKS reports, that with the release of the new OFW 3.60 for the Sony PlayStation 3, the security has been changed very well... He says that Sony has changed bootloaders, and with that, they no longer use the metldr-key. This rootkey has been leaked earlier this year. Hacker GeoHot is currently embroiled in a lawsuit with Sony over the publication of this key.
The rootkey is still in the system, but is no longer used in the verification of the software being loaded. How Sony now identifies official Blu-ray discs is not yet known. KaKaRoToKS notes on his Twitter that tho he only had a little bit of time to analyze the new firmware, he already noticed that they have managed to close the leak of the rootkey. The new firmware might be getting hacked, but not through the methods so far used, he says. Quote of his tweet:

Geohot here or there does not really matter, even though he is a highly skilled hacker.
What matters is if the Sony Service Dongle/glitch-trick still works. Or if Sony service representatives have received new Service Dongles.
