I think he took the best option he had available without really having to "pay for it". Say he was accused and found guilty...he could earn a big fine or possibly jail time.

IMO, he just wanted to get over the "stress" of the court case and take his best option now rather then wait later.

I think many of you confused or assumed Geohot fighting for the "scene" and future hacking/modding of consoles...we know now that he was just fighting for his own ass.

Well according to geohot's blog he will never buy another sony product ever again...

...so my take is the agreement was "never touch our crap again and we will stop suing you. This is wasting both of our times."

Sony knew they were going to lose with their proof falling through and George was too weak to stay with it and rather just disappear.

I could be wrong...but i dont think i am.

Sony settled? Well that speaks volumes about their faith in the court case. He probably could've won out in the end... but he's just a kid. He'd have to be an idiot to throw it all away over a console. Sure, it has more serious underpinnings than that... but it's his life we're talking about. He doesn't want to be the messiah, so leave Brian Hotz alone.

I appreciate what hotz has done for us, and I respect his choice. However as many of you I feel like he let down other users/hackers and all who payed for his lawyers. I really hoped he would go to the end, fight Sony and show Sony that we users have our rights no matter what they put in there TOS.

But to all those who hate him for his choice, please consider that he is still a kid who's main life should be spend in school, not court.

PS: Does anyone know if he promised not to touch any other Sony device?

Well on his blog today, he has stated that he will boycott all Sony products.

Settlements like this are usually due to both parties lack of faith in their ability to win. Geohot in his defense simply lacked the resources to battle sony, his legal team always appeared amateurish to me. For Sony this would mean testing the legality of their TOS, something which could be costly should they lose.

Essentially it is a Win/Win for both parties, however for the hacking/modding scene it leaves it still in a legal grey area.
