Talking [Tutorial] PS3 slim mod (extra usb port)

Hey all, just added an extra usb port to my ps3 slim and want to share this tutorial of how I did it.

With this mod you will only be able to use one device at a time on the port you modify it is not a true usb hub.

You will need the following:

A good solder gun.
A knife or blade
usb extension lead.

I wont bore anyone with how to open the ps3 slim.

YouTube - HOW TO OPEN ( TAKE APART ) & DISASSEMBLE YOUR PLAYSTATION 3 SLIM ( PS3 )

This is the location of where I placed the usb port. Its a tight squeze so be sure to cut in the right place. Try it yourself for the best spot.

Using you knife/blade start cutting, once the hole for the usb is cut and your sure it fits you should have something like this (place the power supply for the PS3 back in its place to make sure it fits in):

OK now for the wiring, Its simple enough even for inexperienced people.
Get your usb extension and cut the male and off strip the wires back and your good to go.
here is the wire colours and what their for:

On your ps3, At the existing usb ports you will have these small solder points, this is where you will be soldering.

You should have the wires in this order: BLACK, GREEN, WHITE, RED. grab your solder gun and stick em on!

Once its done you should have something like this:

Yes the ps3 changed colours. I sprayed it white while I had it taken apart.
Any questions I will try to help no problem!!

Thanks for reading

Nice bro. You made it real simple to follow. Makes me want to rip apart my slim. I would like my camera on the rear usb port. Oh will you add that ps3 to your pics. I want to see how the paint job turned out

Good idea, but how is the compatibility regarding power consumption and such. If you use both front and rear USB port at the same time, will both work well?

Nice DIY project Modding hardware is always fun to do

I'll skip for now, my Logic3 usb hub gives me 5 usb ports on the front of the Slim PS3 and for now that is enough for me.

One more thing, may I note that the 4 wires have not been soldered to the same 4 solder pins as shown in the previous picture. The 4 points where the wires were soldered to are more to the left.
