In the long term no one will ever trust Sony with their creditcard info again which will affect PSN sales severly - this is the death of PSN Store releases since no 3rd party publisher will release a game on a platform with low sales.

And that about the unavoidable class-action lawsuit?

Auch!!
Make wet Dreams.
You believe the people buy the games only from PSN ,and the Console is dead after this??????
Can you use your brain ,when you think????
Make you horny the idea PS3 is dead??????

First off, it will be very interesting to see how THIS plays out... since Sony has made such a HUGE specticle about being based in California.

California Security Breach Notification Law

Quote:
SB 1386 (the California Security Breach Information Act) is a California State law that requires companies that collect personal information to notify each person in their database should there be a security breach involving personal information such as their Social Security number, driver's license number, account number, credit or debit card number, or security code or password for accessing their financial account.

Beginning on July 1 of 2003, state government agencies as well as companies and nonprofit organizations regardless of geographic location must notify California customers if personal information maintained in computerized data files have been compromised by unauthorized access.

California consumers must be notified when their name is illegitimately obtained from a server or database with other personal information such as their Social Security number, driver's license number, account number, credit or debit card number, or security code or password for accessing their financial account.
The law also allows for those who are damaged by the breach to sue. Payback time beaches...

why the **** are sony not getting screwed for their obvious incompetence, lack of customer wellbeing, illegal storage of private details, their nonsensical security, corruption of common laws and to pop a cherry on top of the cake, knowing this has happened and trying to ignore it without informing the end user until forced to do do by a third party?

any and all unauthorized bank transfer/purchase/porn subscriptions should be defaulted to sony to pay for as they show no regard for privacy and are 100% at fault for letting this information be taken. why was it not encrypted, why was it there at all? that sort of data should have been stored locally on the console and even then, no damn security number! sony have no right nor need to ever see this.

personally i deleted all info immediately after any purchase just in case this sort of thing occured. if i find out i still get charged for something i never ordered then i class this as credit card detail theft by SONY as i deleted it and they can not store it by law.
Maybe 3 things can hapend
First Somenone hack the Admin Code of PSN
Second Is inside Job from employment of Sony
Third Maybe is just a fake rumor to give SONY ability have a Flush Royal on hand and open the case of PS3 Hack and F*** the Hackers

In case is only PS3 accounts info leaks i dont worry
If i Steal you account of PS3 i cant use your Credit Card ,because if i activate in other account your credit card numbers is hiding and i need retype to make a order
And my account is already activated 5 times

Honestly has anyone considered the fact, that Sony might be lying about this, just to give them an excuse to take psn offline to rebuild it. That sounds alot more convincing than,

"hackers broke in. And ummm, yeah we kinda werent prepar...

" "but we were kaz"

"shut up!... anywho ignore that last idiot's comment, and yeah ummm all of your information was kinda uhhh stolen."

"stolen?"

"yeah stolen, compromised, jacked, pillaged."

"how did they know what to steal, if that kind of information is supposed to be a bunch of random psudeo numbers that are nearly impossible to decrypt."

"Yeah about that, well since we were soooo confident the ps3 was unhackable. We didnt really think we needed all that extra security mumbo jumbo."

"You guys are morons! Didnt you learn from the titanic, AN UNSINKABLE SHIP, That you cant have to much faith in something MAN BUILT. 1500 people died because of a lack of lifeboats!"

"It was a pretty boat though ^_^"

So I guess this is the answer to why they were freaking out over linux. If someone could change the box into a "computer" that could access their PSN network I guess there were no safeguards in place to keep them from getting tons of sensitive data. Way to go assclowns! $ony = FAIL.

With all respect sony is never able to do this behind doors, you know how much investigation this will cost.

However even i use a CFW, but if you ask me if communitys like this making doors open to do this, like the fake creditcard on rebug. well soon all those sites will be down.
we all can say sony fails, but there always ways to hack our gain data from every system.
and i believe the PS3 hacking scene has something to do with it.

WTF...

Sony...in their best defense from hackers--didn't secure our information with any kind of encryption. I really have nothing more to add, except that I refuse to purchase anymore on the PSN if it EVER comes back online. It's just too dangerous and they have shown they do not care about sensitive data.
