What Monitor to buy for the PS3
Hi all,
I decided to sell my old PC and use the PS3 as a linux machine. The only problem is that I don't know what kind of Monitor will be compatible with the PS3. Any suggestions on what to buy ? What will be the cheapest deal ? I learned that I can convert the TV-out as DVI but I'll be limited to 576x384 resolution which sux. It should be a HDMI monitor but what model will be compatible ? Thanks in advance. |

Just make sure it is HDCP compliant and that would work, thought it is a tad expenisve due to the new technology.
Here are some good monitors you can get on eBay which are HDCP. |

It's very important to get a monitor that has DVI inputs. HDMI and DVI carry the same VIDEO signal, but HDMI also carries a digital AUDIO signal. You can find DVI > HDMI cables anywhere, but keep in mind that you'd have to use RCA or OPTICAL audio cables for sound. Also, make sure that the monitor has a 16:9 Aspect ratio and that it is, as Pirate said, HDCP compliant. Also, make sure that the REFRESH rate is at or below 12 ms to prevent ghosting (a symptom where LCD screens aren't fast enough to keep up with fast-paced video signals).

What Monitor to buy for the PS3
Thanks for the advices. ha-ha ... but I gave every single $ from my savings to buy the PS3... Now I'm absolutely broke . Guess I'll be stuck with my PC and my TV for a while.
:) Nevertheless I'm on 70% from downloading YLD linux. I plan to try the text install. Otherwise since I don't have any money to buy games , I use the PS as a realy realy expensive DVD/MP3 player. I even took 100 bucks from my girlfriend. She said: " I want to buy a Philips Epilierer & Ladyshaver " And I was like : "Ohhh baby you don't want one. You'll never need it. I'll be playing Tekken,MGS3/4, Resident Evil and stuff for the next couple of months. So what's the rush ?" hahah... Anyways thanks for the advice. I'll be posting the YLD text install tut as soon as I save 10 bucks for a USB keyboard :) |
