your internal harddisk can only be accessed by FTP. This is because your internal harddisk has a special filesystem that can only be recognized by the PS3 itself. No way you can read it with a normal pc. Linux can see the partitions sometimes but still the filesystem problem.

So without access to the GameOS to start FTP you won't get your data back.

(Linux on PS3 can access the partitions also but also needs a working PS3)

^^^ Nope, PS3 HDD's have a unique encryption tied to the console it's from. If you put it into another PS3, that new one can't read it so format's the HDD.

You could do a temporary reflow of the motherboard using an oven or heatgun if you just wanna back it up (it'll die again shortly after, but give you penty of time to back everything up). Check out the "gilksy" tutorial on Youtube, you can swap the heatgun for an oven if you haven't got a heatgun.

NOTE: This is only because you just want the data, it's not a recommended fix!

So you can't stick the HDD in a laptop? When they're both same? (looking @ Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li1705). When I put it in it loaded fine, just the bios said there was nothing to boot.

EDIT: HDD didn't get formatted neither.

You're right its just a standard 2.5 hard drive. But. . . The OP wanted to know if it was possible to view the files on the hard drive which is not possible right now.
