sony are supporting (along with epsilon) the government action against online security breaches.
Top executives from the companies said they are backing the new law. the new law is that the companies will tell their customers immediately after data has been compromised.
Bono Mack said "For me, one of the most troubling issues is how long it took Sony to notify consumers, and the way in which the company did it -- by posting an announcement on its blog," Bono Mack said. "In effect, Sony put the burden on consumers to search for information instead of providing it to them directly. That cannot happen again."
i believe that sony were fast enough with telling customers about the hacks. they needed to find out how big the attack was before telling the public. sony said themselves the same thing. sony stated they "needed time to determine what had happened"

this is good for sony's PR. But with the number of hacks and $170 million bill to fix things it looks bad for sony.
Sony need to show the customers that they care about the data. Hopefulkly they will figure it all out.

BTW, sony isn't the only website that has been attacked in the last few months.

Hopefully they find the hackers and sue them! (like they did Graf Chokolo :P)

This is no suprise at all . I just posted on the ip bill about the MPAA,RIAA,SONY are all in this together... These people are a bunch of liers & are courrupt. Only reason sony is in this is so they can sue to make more money & control + MPAA is helping sony by logging peoples ips on torrent programs ,while the MPAA are on the same file download as other people who like to download movies + music ..etc... The world should have never supported these companys = we should of tried to do somethimng in the past to prevent ,them from getting so big. Now that the world has bought everything they put out there ,we as in the supporters have given the bad guys complete control of our lives to come in the future = bad news ..people seriously need to boycott sony ,they need to be hurt ,also need to stop going to the movies+buying dvds etc ... you should get the point ...

Wells Fargo Big Banks control everything legally ripping you off stealing with fee's such as ohh you paid too early. 1.00 for a can of pop 1.50 for a double cheeseburger at mcdonalds total $2.50 costed me $179.00 2 over draft fee's + over the limit fee after stealing my last $10.00 for a monthly bank checking fee another over the limit fee

Seriously I hope like hell you don't have a jailbroken iPhone or a jailbroken ps3 or anything else that might be considered hacked, cracked, rooted, etc. Also maybe you should do a little research, Graf Chokolo was working on LINUX....I'll repeat that LINUX. So why did graf deserve to be sued? Is working on LINUX a crime? Also if you think hackers should be sued, why are you on a ps3 hacking site?

Obama Administration Unveils Internet ID Plan

The Commerce Dept. unveiled a plan Friday to create a national cyber-identity system that would give consumers who opt in a single secure password and identity for all their digital transactions.

The National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC) will be a voluntary system designed to protect consumers from online fraud and identity theft -- which hit 8.1 million people last year, at a total cost of $27 billion. The problem: The current system of half-remembered passwords jotted down on post-it notes and based on pets and maiden names simply isn't good enough.

"Passwords just won't cut it here," said Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, who announced the initiative at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “We must do more to help consumers protect themselves, and we must make it more convenient than remembering dozens of passwords,” he said.

The "identity ecosystem" will create secure online IDs for Americans who elect to join the program, giving them a single credential -- such as a unique piece of software on a smart phone, a smart card, or a token that generates a one-time digital password -- which they can use to log on to a variety of websites.

Instead of having to remember all those disparate passwords, one for each site that conducts a secure transaction, a consumer would use that single credential to log in, with far more security than a password alone would provide, the agency said.

That log in could be anything: a smart card, a cell phone, a keychain fob, or some other type of gizmo.

And if a user so chooses, they can elect to have several log-ins from different credential providers. Want a key fob from Google and cell phone software from Verisign? Go for it, both will work -- though having two would reduce the simplicity factor, of course.

NSTIC also aims to protect consumers' privacy from the vast array of companies that collect data on their websurfing activity, letting them surf anonymously online. It would not create a centralized database of information, the agency said, because consumers will be able to choose from a variety of programs within the cyber-identity system.

But it's not ready yet. To make the proposal a reality, a multitude of companies have been enlisted to build software, develop new standards and make hardware that will make up the system, including Microsoft, IBM, the Secure ID Coalition and Wave Systems Corp, which exhibited a system for securely accessing a wide variety of websites with just a single password.

"This ecosystem will provide citizens with a variety of choices for authenticating their identity online while helping to protect their security and privacy," said Scott Charney, corporate vice president of Microsoft.

Jim Dempsey, a vice president with the Center for Democracy and Technology, agreed that the program would help address the problems of online threats.

It is funny that you mention ( Wells Fargo ) My father even picked up on there bull$h+t ! My brother had issues with Wells Fargo also .. I got bombarded from my bank with overdraft 400+ after they said i will not be cgharged for going over if my checking is in the -negitive = I was pissed ,i usually dont look at my statments as much but after that i make shure i have money in my checking always . You think people would know what to tell a customer ,when you ask a important question like i did.-> " do i get charged if i overdraft my account
? ANSWER= I dont think so she said ? " That was not a good answer since i got FK out of $400+ with checking/overdraft fees, in a few months
