help with case mod..

ok so i took my ps3 apart today and started doing the mods

I cut a hole in the bottom for cooling and also cut the slats out of the vents by the hdd, after taking the ps3's top cover off i noticed it was kinda see-through
so i cut a square hole in the top of the ps3 so it can be illuminated inside with a few light strips.

so here's a few questions:
when i took the ps3 apart i had to split the heat sink
on the pic below the cpu/gpu have the plates still stuck to them.
so do i take the plates off and use thermal paste on both sides of the plates?

also i want to power my light stips from the usb do i wire to inner or outa connections? and what side does the positive and negative wires go?

Also is there a better way to power led strips or even some normal leds rather than using the usb power

thanks

the chips have a metal shell on them that you do not want to remove, clean the thermal paste off there should be writing under it

also here are pinouts for usb http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml
all usb devices follow that pinout

hey thanks for the reply.
u said that the CPU ect has a metal case??
all I have is 2 metal plates stuck to the chips with paste, the paste that is on there is pretty well stuck. so do I just past on top and put board back on or should I take the plates off and re paste them too??

also how many LEDs u thinks 1 USB could run ??
do I need to wire the parallel or series??

I would run it in parallel, and as far as thermal paste goes, exposure to air for 45mins+ can cause it to cure/harden, I'd recommend wiping it all off and putting a small amount back on (too much is bad and too little is also bad).

YouTube - ‪How to install ps3 led lights from Keyrazy LEDs‬‏

put some LED strips on the bottom of the black plastic an light it up
use a volt meter of the usb ports

when you clean off the chips you should see writing if you do do not remove them

should look something like this http://www.geeks3d.com/public/jegx/2...er-cxd2982.jpg

I gota go to the electronics shop and get a few bits
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
okay so i been looking at guides and I think the blueray 12v will be what I will use for power, do I wire series with 1 resistor or parallel with a separate resistor for each led....

what u think will be best and will it matter??

ok I will wire parallel like this:

Solution 1: 2 x 10 array uses 20 LEDs exactly
+----|>|----|>|---/\/\/----+ R = 270 ohms
+----|>|----|>|---/\/\/----+ R = 270 ohms
+----|>|----|>|---/\/\/----+ R = 270 ohms
+----|>|----|>|---/\/\/----+ R = 270 ohms
+----|>|----|>|---/\/\/----+ R = 270 ohms
+----|>|----|>|---/\/\/----+ R = 270 ohms
+----|>|----|>|---/\/\/----+ R = 270 ohms
+----|>|----|>|---/\/\/----+ R = 270 ohms
+----|>|----|>|---/\/\/----+ R = 270 ohms
+----|>|----|>|---/\/\/----+ R = 270 ohms

The wizard says: In solution 1:
each 270 ohm resistor dissipates 108 mW
the wizard says the color code for 270 is red violet brown
the wizard thinks ¼W resistors are fine for your application
together, all resistors dissipate 1080 mW
together, the diodes dissipate 1400 mW
total power dissipated by the array is 2480 mW
the array draws current of 200 mA from the source.
