One PS3,One Modem,One Computer & One Ethernet cord?
ok so heres my problem. I do not have a router and i want to connect my ps3 to the internet. I COULD connect it to the internet but i have to connect the ps3 ethernet cord to the modem, and when i do that, my computer cannot receive any connection. So it seems that i cannot be online on my computer and on my ps3 at the same time. btw my comp and ps3 are right beside eachother. So then i was trying to find a way to get both to connect at the internet at the same time. I dont want to buy a router or something like that. So when i was looking at the back of my computer, there was this ethernet port right there. I plugged my ps3 ethernet cord in the back of my computer and a yellow light switches on. But still no connection. Is there a way that i can fix this through the settings of my computer? if so, please can anyone help me and guide me to do it. Thanks alot.

You're just going to have to break down and get yourself a router. There's really no other way. The PS3 isn't a modem, and does not send out an internet signal, neither does the PC. Connecting them to each other via an Ethernet cable will achieve nothing.

If you dont want a router, by WifiMax.
What WiFiMax does is that it basically is a simple USB stick that plugs into your PC, and turns it into a small wireless hotspot, allowing your PS3 to wirelessly connect to your computer and internet to play online games. Again a cheap and slightly pricey solution. But it works. WifiMax (it says for PSP but works with any system, would be cheaper on eBay): http://www.amazon.com/Intec-DUS0139-.../dp/B000CRKB32 |

You can do it by sharing your pc internet. (i do it on my ps2, i assume ps3 will able to do it too)
Its known as windows ics (internet connection sharing) Connect your ps3 to pc using crosslink Lan cable. Set ps2 ip to 192.168.0.2 Gateway to 192.168.0.1 Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 For dns, cant remember, go to www.opendns.com On your pc, go to network connection on control panel, righ click on your internet connection. On the most right tabs (advanced i think) Click, allow other user to connect internet trought this computer. Done. Windows will automatically set your pc ip to 192.168.0.1 For more comprehensive guide, go to google, Search : windows ics

this is what I use and it works flawlessly, both computer and PS3 are connected to the internet at the same time and it's probably the cheapest solution.
