"No init" after AsbestOs 1.5 Install

I just installed Asbestos 1.5 to be able to put Red Ribbon on my external USB HDD. After Boot up of the Asbestos install through lv2 ver 9 i get to the command prompt telling me "No Init".

Shouldnt it recognize the CD in my BDRom and boot it up for installation? Or did i get something wrong here?

Tried on PS3 Slim

I never used Asbest OS 1.5 (it is an older way to install), but "no init" says it has a problem with the initialization program or kernel.

Just use the latest way to install linux with the 22Gb partition: http://www.ps3hax.net/showpost.php?p...4&postcount=35
(I think it is the latest, at least it is with the ps3dd partition)

Thank you for the explanation oozic.

My intention was not to install a new CFW. Thats why i chose Asbestos 1.5.
I could not use OtherOs++ as i have Kmeaw running now. Petitboot was no option for me because i dont think there is a way of uninstalling that without complete format of the HDD.

So the question remains: is there any way of installing Linux/ Red Ribbon on external HDD on Kmeaw without CFW flash or installation of petitboot?

Petitboot is the bootloader for Linux on the PS3, that one is always needed and always on the vflash. Formatting the HD is only needed for the Linux install, not for installing Petitboot.

And you can install Linux afterwards on any device you want, it doesn't have to be on internal. I have an external 8Gb USB stick with Debian on it for rescue disk and petitboot recognizes it and can boot it. Internal is much faster though.

Just install petitboot, run it and install Red Ribbon on external device. Just don't use the tools to create the ps3dd partition

I see no reason to delete petitboot if you installed it and don't want to use it anymore. Use the boot_gameos app and it is out of function. Recovery menu works again and you don't see petitboot again unless you run boot_otheros app again.

Ok i have installed petitboot now, Red Ribbon live-cd booted up fine and i could start the Red Ribbon installation

Now i m stuck after HDD format in the the Red Ribbon installation.
I partitioned my external HDD with 20 gig ext4 and 500 MB Swap.
Then formatted the partitions.
After formatting i get an error screen "unable to mount system image. Can not continue installation".

Whats the problem here? any idea?

Try ext3, ext4 gave me troubles in the beginning also, after that I always use ext3. Don't know for sure if this is causing your problem....

Are you using RC4 or RC3? RC3 has a problem (bug) with the installer...

Ok i got it up and running now. It didnt seem to work with the first external HDD i tried. Used another one and its running fine now. Got it installed with ext4 even

The thing that came to my eyes first are the black borders around the desktop. Is there a way to get rid of these? using all my TV size would be nice

Glad it works now for you

For screen resolution check my little guide about it:

Thanks again.

Mode 133 is working fine for me.
The installation seems to be running pretty good now. I ll test it in the coming days. We will see what other questions will come up then

One thing i noticed: the sources.list only contains the multimedia repository.
Can i just add the usual debian stable/unstable repositories or wouldnt that be a good idea?
