Hey, I recently returned to college only to find out my mission to get to rank 55 online for COD4 has to come to a halt because I can no longer Login to PSN. I get an Internet connection and the IP address can be found but fails when connecting to Playstation network and always says " This is a DNS Problem" SOME ONE HELP PLEASE.

Sounds like you need to configure your ps3 for use with a custom DNS.

Do you know the IP of your schools' DNS server?

I am connected via Netgear router. I have complete access to all of the routers Info. I can also Connect through my comp. I do not know the schools Info, though I can probably find out. What would need to be changed in order to get this workin. I tried it last semester with Xbox and halo and never could figure it out, but became alil more knowledgable about networks. I am dedicated this time around to get this working. Lets do this people!!!!!

Are you running wireless or no?

All you should need is the address of your school's dns server.

It should be something like ns1.yourshool.edu / ns2.yourschool.edu or a static IP.

All you have to do is an ipconfig.

- Press Windows+R or Click on start / run
- Type "cmd" and press enter
- Cmd prompt will open, Type "ipconfig /all" and press enter

Your DNS should be the 3rd from the last line. Write that address down and custom reconfigure your PS3 wireless. When it asks for DNS server, put that address in and you should be set.

The servers have been kind of down in the past days, dont know if you caught it in the wrong day but anyway, if its error 80710102 its common.

Havent tried what your post was yet kronik. I will in the next few hours I have to run to the doc at 5 so Im about to leave. But I finally got into my router and here are the #'s.
IP - 192.168.74.214
Gateway IP - 192.168.74.1
DNS- Automatic(Cant see the numbers)
Default MAC address(Cant see either)
Channel 6

And again on what you said Kronik, if Im restricted by a firewall wouldnt my comps DNS go through the same? I dont know about much of this stuff and I havent tried yet so ill get back to you on that. Thanks bro
*** POST UPDATE ***

*** POST UPDATE ***
DNS On my comp is 192.168.1.1 but I think that would also be the schools since thats where Im connected. I dunno

Sounds more like a proxy blocking it to me, i get that @ uni, the techies proxied out the ip the ps3 uses to connect the PSN. it took me ages to figure out cause it said dns but it was actually proxy. check the custom settings if youve enabled proxy (if your college uses it).
