@calimba

I have a slim that came with 3.40 installed I tried to downgrade it from 3.55 kmeaw with the 3.41 that reports as 3.56, but I did not use service mode I just ran the "update" from recovery mode. The install was successful but the ps3 was bricked.

I believe what I have is a ps3 with 3.41 on the NOR but the SYSCON firmware is 3.55.

Do you think the patchcos.bin you posted would solve my problem or are the offsets going to be different because my dump will be 3.41 and not 3.55?

Infectus- NAND only consoles, older product so support may not be available or limited

Teensy++- NOR only consoles, price is reasonable, open source

Progskeet- Both NAND/NOR consoles, higher price, newer product, support will most likely be very good, not limited to reading/writing only to console flash and can be used in other devices.
Thank you for your replay very much!!
I have PS3-CECHH04 40GB is which way is the easiest for me?

1. Make a dump of the NOR
2. Open you dump with the HxD and search "6F FF E0" in the offset "C0000"
3. Open patchcos.bin with HxD too and select all content then paste all content to the dump
4. Save and flash the modified file, and wait 2 hours
if you have a black screen use the jig to enter to service mode and try downgrade with necesary files
This patch is for NAND only. I wasted a lot of hours trying that

Thanks for the heads up jester. We need some sort of procedure. I wasn't really interested in a ready made patch as i was the procedure for patching lv1 or 2 and resigning it.
If i could figure that out, i could use the disable checks patch on kmeaw cfw, extract the core_os from it and patch it into a nor dump. Not sure if thats the way to go, no one seems to be talking....lol

ok...
Ive figured out ps3mfw enough to do some testing and i've patched the lv1 hash checks in kmeaw and 355ofw. I actually opened up the pup's, decrypted the lv1.self's and located the new string. Its all good

now i was just going to use depkg cmd to create the core_os.bin (cos patch for my nor dump) using the core_os_package.pkg from the modded kmeaw pup, but it create a file size of 0. I was sure it worked on ofw, so i tried with ofw core_os_package.pkg and it did work. So i tried again using ofw that was patched.....no go. Even kmeaw orig pup wouldn't let me make the bin.

It seems any firmware that has been modified will not work with the depkg cmd to make a .bin file.
But the unpkg cmd included in cygwin will still unpkg the modded core_os_packages fine. hmmmmm...wtf
Anyone know a work around to get the bin file from a modded core_os_package.pkg file?
Will just patching the ofw core_os.bin with a patched kmeaw lv1.self and lv2_kernal.self work?

why are you doing that so hard ?
unpack a pup,
unself lv1.self,
patch it by hand,
rebuild lv1.self using self_rebuilder
paste it at right offset in your nor dump,
reflash it

LMFAO, cause i've had to figure it out myself. But thanks for the tip
sorry, not by myself, with the help of old threads and trying things for myself...

This is what i was missing
rebuild lv1.self using self_rebuilder although this is cmd used by ps3mfw, so in essence i had that too

Im still a little confused. In order to downgrade to a certain f/w. You need to patch your dump with the complete core_os of the firmware your downgrading to,not just the patched lv1.self.

2nd, i wont be able to install any other f/w after the downgrade so i need to install the core_os from cfw like kmeaw.

Kmeaw has lv1 patches and lv2 kernel patches so both selfs need to be patched into the dump, do they not?
Not to mention the install pkg's and /app_home debug options. Im not even sure about those patches ,lol

Btw jester, was dospiedra able to fix your flash for you? just curious?
