Nor chip cannibalize
I have been reading alot lately about the norflash, in particuar infectus and the progskeet...
The big question is, can i take the nor chip off 1 ps3 solder it onto another motherboard. obviously I would be doing this cause the chip thats being implanted has v3.55 yet I read with progskeet and infectus the flash must be from the same device, so the above would not work? so where how would this identification/difference be stored ? if i implant another part of the motherboard could this be overcome ? |

seeing as you would need to edit the contents of the NOR replacement anyway, i see no point in swapping the chip.
just reflash the current one after dump/modify the required ections keep an eye on the threads regarding these reader/writers and im sure there will be a tut soon enough

I think the identification is the PPC Cell root key that we all want. So you have to change the PPC processor as well to make this work.

I agree with what OoZic said, doing the same thing on a JTAG Xbox 360 I'm pretty sure you need to swap the CPU as well as NAND because that's what you're exploiting. You dump your 360's NAND to an image file and get your CPU root key using Xell/Xellous, then decrypt the NAND dump and compile a custom Freeboot image using that key, which would only work on that single CPU, it just reads from the patched NAND image file which is specific to that CPU, you can read/patch/write the NAND flash chip externally, but it's pointless without an exploitable CPU (to get the key from).
For the PS3 though, there are much easier ways of downgrading the machine than your method (although it could possibly work with CPU etc transferred too). Unless the exploitable machine is YLOD and you can't find exploitable PS3's new or used, only then would it be anywhere near worthwhile transferring the CPU and NOR, but you'd be best off if you just dump your NOR and replace Ros0 with Ros1 using a hex editor or get the 3.55 CoreOS from a pup and paste that in since our NAND/NOR's are not encrypted with a per-console key. Just my opinion, I'm open to correction!
