Hello,

I'm pretty new to this PS3 stuff, and always been a big PC fanatic.

But since PS3 is able to play all sorts of media, it starts to get kind of interesting form me.

I tried a couple of things on a PS3 of one of my friends and noticed that you can play *.vob files individual from a network disk which support DLNA.

However, I would like to play it from a network disk, without DLNA support.
And even more important, I would like to play the entire DVD as if it was a DVD (Beginning with the menu etc. etc., so I can actually select language, audio and subtitles)

I know this is not possible at this moment, but what I dont understand is why this is so difficult. I mean if you put a DVD disk in a PS3 player, it will play automaticly with menu.

Can someone explain why the PS3 cannot be easily hacked or moded in doing so anyway. Or is this possible and just a matter of time until somebody puts enough time into it to write a good mod ???

If this option would be possible, then its defintly a good reason for me to buy a PS3, hopefully just before GTA comes out, so that I dont have to wait untill they build a pc version for it.

streaming dvd images and basically any kind of video/audio etc is possible if you run linux on your ps3. There are no mods or hacks of any kind availible for the ps3 system software because no one has figured out how to hack it. Yet.

Run vlc on ps3 linux, and tell it to play video_ts folder.

You will get the dvd files work like normal dvd with menu
