? would you lose your DLC if you downgraded? i am thinking about updating to 3.70 to get some DLC and then using this to get back onto CFW but want to make sure first..

I'm not willing to take my chances in soldering but this is incredible work these developers have done, major credit to them.

Ah. Would certainly do this but I take it a little just too complicated.

This is an awesome tutorial (especially for those with soldering skills and an old teensy laying around ) Once the solderless solution is made available that should help a lot of people out. Upgrade if you want to be on latest firmware or downgrade if you want MFW and homebrew. This is great news for people that do not want to have 2 ps3s.

So what happens if this is attempted on a factory base 3.56 firmware PS3?
If its already on 3.56 or greater there is no way check first... What happens is that the Registry is lost. (Flash2) If the PS3 can not find a matching serial number for the HD in the registry it will want to format it. Also the entire house of cards collapses for PSN\DLC because there is also no matching PSN account information in the Registry. If you have a back up of Flash2 and the "exdata" folder from a previous jail break you might get lucky. As for BluRay its always best to know the highest MKB version that has been played in the PS3 prior to Downgrading. (Flash3) Be ready with the required BRD and DRL's to restore BluRay playback if needed. Right now your best bet might be to use the PS3 backup utility. It will restore ALL content, but it wont restore the ACT.DAT or .RIF files if the PSN account information associated with them cannot be found in the current Registry. (Flash2) No way to get back on PSN, no Flash2 or "exdata" folder back up means no chance at DLC re-activation. Hopefully someone comes up with a PS3 Backup image decrypter. Its very possible to reconstruct the Registry but the current ACT.DAT and .RIF's are locked away in that archive until it can be decrypted and the files extracted. |
