If you can follow instruction, you are 90% there. There are a lot of awesome E3 flasher tutorials on this site.

The E3 nor clip doesnt require any soldering, so thats the one I would go for as a newbie, however it needs to be pressed on properly and dump and re-dump your NOR several times to verify its a good dump.

You could upgrade and downgrade at your leisure with an E3

That FSM dongle thing you're talking about, that's a downloadable software isn't it ? Nope its a hardware USB dongle that you'll need in addition to the E3 flasher kit

It is possible to download the FSM files for a few devices such as 2G iPods, various Nokias, dingoo, and so on, but you still need the initial usb based hardware in order to download the software for them, to convert them into a FSM dongle.

For example, I had an iPod 2G knocking about, I downloaded rockbox, and then the PS3 payload so I could use my iPod as a FSM/downgrade dongle.

If you have old MP3 players or phones, google them up and see if they might work. Otherwise just buy a dongle

yes I can access the recovery menu.
Before applying the update I was getting this error message whenever I try to save a game or enable autosave "An error has occurred 80022D90".
