What fw are you on? are you trying to downgrade without a hardware flasher? (that is impossible, you need progskeet or E3 flasher)

Find out system menu fw version: go to settings>systemsettings>system information

If your PS3 is over 3.55 you need to use minvercheck to find out if its downgradable (I'm 99% sure a 2001a IS down to about 2.70 or so)

I'm at work right now so will check the "system information" for the version when I get home.

Just a little confused when you say if it is over 3.55, I would need to use minvercheck to find out if downgradable but then you say my model is likely down to about 2.70 or so.. And I would need a hardware flasher Wouldn't I be able to upgrade to 3.55 or whatever if that's the case? Or is that what you meant.

I mean I checked out 2001a models on the wiki SKU's list and yours DOES downgrade to 2.70 minimum system menu version. Minvercheck is a tool to double check this.

If your current set up is 3.55 you are golden. If it is below (very unlikely) you need to update to 3.55 and then install 3.55 CFW. If your system menu is ABOVE 3.55 you will need hardware inorder to downgrade it from, for example 3.60, 3.72, 4.01, or 4.20, down to 3.55 inorder to jailbreak.

There is no way to software downgrade. You have to use hardware to do that.
