Also allow me to add, in the near future you WILL be able to play remastered bd discs created via ps3gen when rebug releases their fw. However it being 3.41 or lower you wont be able to play games encrypted with keys we do not have the respective decryption keys.

As for flashing the bd drive fw, a simple firmware update from sony could easily revert any possible patch.

I want the external hard drive rather than Blu-Ray since the fact remains MOST PEOPLE still don't have them. And another fact still remains new keys and new firmwares aren't out so playing games built for 3.56+ doesn't always work well. Try running an exe compiled for x86 Windows 7 on a Windows 98 machine it doesn't work too well because of dependency issues, not because throwing them on a Blu-Ray is the end all to make all new games we don't even have the keys for work. Things have changed also I am not speculating that is just a fact. This SDK was released before we even had PSJailBreak, let alone the fact that we now have CFW and PSN was hacked. Don't get too big for your britches gentlemen.
Well, my point of view was that maybe for some of the more stubborn games (not many of them, but some exist) that just won't boot, no matter what backup manager or settings are used. If the data was burned to a disc (the right way mind you) then this could be a solution (even if just temporary) to getting them to work until a hard drive solution is available.

Edit: On a side note, I just thought I'd point out to anyone going down the PS2 line of disc authoring and such that the PS2 can't be used as a basepoint of comparison to the PS3 in terms of copy protection, as the two schemes are completely different. The PS2 relied on intentional bad sectors to be present in the first track of the disc. This is what triggered the PS2 BIOS to boot the disc. Since corrupt sectors can't be copied (no matter what software you use, the burner will always fix the corrupted area, thus removing the ability for the disc to trigger the boot sequence on a PS2), it is impossible to burn a bootable PS2 disc. Period. And the PS3 of course, doesn't rely on such techniques, but rather an encryption system (obviously) and a hypervisor (also obviously). Unlike a PS2, where the BIOS is never changed, the PS3 has upgradable (and customizable) firmware. That said, if a person with enough knowledge reversed the entire firmware and learned all it's workings, you could make that firmware do pretty much anything you want, within the capabilities of the machine of course. So, backup booting BD-R would be completely possible I believe. It's just a matter of writing the firmware to bypass the check the PS3 does to see if a disc is genuine.

For that you would need to patch the bd drive fw to somehow bypass the PIC zone check authentication.

Or possibly send an automatic "ok" on the check, so that even if the drive sends a failed check code, the firmware would be told otherwise, and continue to boot as if nothing were wrong. No matter what the drive is seeing, it only passes it's check result onto the firmware, which then controls whether the disc will boot or not. A forced positive result to the firmware would negate the drive's result.

just thought about it and i made a mistake im sober now , it wouldnt make a eboot , think about it does a dvd burner or cd burner make a the files in side . no it just puts all the files on a disc etc , all the files will have to be there , so the same as burner for the ps3 , all the files will have to be already made before you burn it etc , we can just make a eboot out of nothink it has the be made for the games , we have already got the tools to make eboot etc but we cant make eboots for games other wise it would of been happening ages ago ,
