Angry CHange blue ray laser?

Hi all,

I got my PS3 40GB just a month ago. I got it pretty cheap because I know the guy. It is brand new but USED we can say that. I don't have a recipt because of that.

So for a day ago I updated to FRMW 2.10. After that the blue ray drive can't read the discs. It can take them in but nothing shows up in XMB.

So, If someone knows how to fix this without change blue ray laser I would be gratefull. If it isn't possible, can someone please post a guide how to take out the blue ray drive from the PS3?

Kind Regards!

Sorry, I live in Sweden.
I contacted them over phone and mail. The person over phone said that I should return it at the store with a recipt. The person over mail said the same except nothing about a recipt.

I can testa to go to a store and just say that I bought it there and say that sony said to me return it?

Regards!

if you have taken it apart (i did, so i can do the swap trick, (YAY GOD OF WAR 2)), then make sure that the cables are in right, sometimes minor things can happen, you just never know...

but if you havnt, sony would be the best bet, if they wont help you, your are $hit out of luck until one of the following occur:

1. the ps3 gets hacked and iso's are now bootable.
2. Sony decides to give a $hit about their customers.
3. you hit it with a wrench...( i dont advise this...)
4. Hell freezes over.
5. threaten its life with a 360.

good luck, and if you do decide to take it apart, heres some advice, the top is of the case is a bit hard to take off, and put back on, just give it some pull and it will come off.
(it takes a variety of tools to complete too)

if you plan on switching the lens. You must do that LENS only. You can not just put a new blu-ray drive in. Or buy one online. The whole drive itself is married to the PS3. You can try a working LENS replacement but it will not work. The best thing to do is to play demos and whatever games you got from hard drive until next firmware comes out. It was a bad flash to the blu-ray drive is yoru problem. I had one like this and i had 1.91 on it...waited then updated it to 2.10 and it worked like a charm. Sony doesnt give a **** that their firmware is ****ing up alot of systems. They are worried abotu makeing sure there blu-ray drive and system has no hacks or exploits in it and could care less about the customers.

I'm glad to hear that there is a probability that the next firmware can solve disc not reading problem...although it's not 100% guaranteed, but it's a new hope for me.

gonna keep my finger crossed, and my advice is better not messing up with PS3 by opening it if you don't have any experience.Chances are you'll make it worse.

I have red a bit on the net about this problem and there is MANY people who has this problem. Some guy got it just after one week. I would be suprised if it is the laser that is ****ed up.

I mean who can a company release a procut with a ****ty lase that just works some weeks? It has to do with the firmware I think.

Many people on the net says that it is laser but I don't know. I just wanät to know a way to fix this. I will try to turn the PS3 in a store without recipt.

I hate if they need recipt because it has 1 year factory warranty. And we all KNOWS that the PS3 40GB modell is just some months old ore something.
