idk if you permanently damaged something, but you definitely messed it up. that is if you for sure put it back together properly connecting all the power stuff and the power switch.
otherwise its ****ed, you'll need to reball it to see if it turns on again, but even that might not fix it. |

Pretty much as Afiser said. It's hard to mess it up so that it wont even light up. You'd have to melt or break the trace connections on the board, or at the least, not re-connect everything right, to do this.
I reflowed a board before but the CMOS battery connector to the actual board was loose. It took some 'jiggling' to remake the connection and then it lit back up. If there is no connection to the CMOS it obviously wont light up at all. It was still knackered but at least i was told this by the lights.... Seriously, get it reballed, turning a paint stripping heat gun on a motherboard will usually end in tears. |

3 possibilities :
- dead power supply - dead motherboard components - you broke the ribbon cable that connects the power/eject board to the motherboard. I'd first try with different cables, and manipulate the power/eject ribbon gently :P

damage/dead switch
damaged/dead PSU damaged/dead mobo loose/broken ribbon connections (although does anyone know exactly which ribbon cables are the bare essentials to get the unit to power up? i thought it was just plug > switch > PSU > motherboard unless some other connections are required before the system can be fully turned on?) so besides those four a CMOS issue would prevent the unit from powering up too? since i don't have any spare replacement parts (unless i can convince my brother-in-law to let me swap his fat 160gb ps3's switch/psu, which i think is very unlikely) could i possibly check if some of those components are good/dead with a digital multimeter? although i honestly don't have a clue on how to use it but i have one |

Double check to make sure all of your ribbon cables are seated and connected properly. If there is one unconnected the PS3 will not power up. I did this before. Even though i connected the cable for some reason it slipped loose and the PS3 wouldnt power up.
