PS2 backwards compatibility on 40GB ps3?
I ahve a 40GB PS3 and was curious. I know the first ps3s that came out had hardware emulation for BC for PS2 games. Then they changed it to software.. Is it totally software emulation or is there still some hardware missing in the 40GB models as opposed to the 80GB ones (or the next one up that does ps2 BC)
Just curious because I was wondering if the firmware was different between the 40GB and 80GB model for the PS2 BC stuff or not. |

it should be possible when we see some CFW because the 60GB uses software emulation for bc.

I know the original PS3s were all hardware becuase the software emulation wasn't finished, and I think they wanted to go to all software becuase it was cheaper to produce the PS3s due to less components.

Only the NTSC 60gb were hardware compatible with PS2 games. PAL machines on the other hand, In order to cut in manufacture costs, Sony took out the chip incharge and replaced it with software. |

I have a 60gb PS3 so i don't have a problem with any backwards compatibility but my brother just bought a 40gb PS3 and he wants to get rid of his PS2 but he has the same problem like everyone else he can't play them on his PS3 so he told me to start looking for something that would enable him to do that

sony arent dumb, if it was just software they may as well have left it in because the software is already programmed, it would cost them nothing to include it.
probably uses a diffrent architecture due to 60 -45nm processor.
