MM / Showtime not playing certain m4v

Hey guys, so after some digging i have found some of my m4v files wont play on showtime / MM.

It seems to be related to the resolution, but strangly not high or low just in the middle.

My 640*352 / 608*336 files will play with audio only but a black screen. There are no errors in the log and if you exit and go back in Showtime picks up where you left the video but continues with a black screen.

This is effecting several of my files and the only common thing i can see is the resolution being in the 600 ish range * 300 ish but maybe im missing something.

My HD m4vs all play fine.

All files have been converted using handbrake and checked before moving onto the PS3.

THoughts?

Ok so it isnt resolution thats the problem. What else could be going on? Im using the same program (handbrake) with the same settings to encode every m4v yet some work and some dont!

Confused!

This bug is already known as Showtime Bug #662:
http://www.lonelycoder.com/redmine/issues/662

I have found this issue many months ago, and seems there will not be a fix in the short term (look andoma's message #10).

In the link above, there are reports that converting the MP4/M4V to MKV works using MKVToolNix. The conversion takes only 2-3 minutes or less. I have tested with a couple of MP4 and they worked after the converstion to MKV.

The movies that I get black screen with audio on mm or showtime, I just play them directly from ps3s media.
