Hard Drive Upgrade question
After doing a lot of reading i learned that the biggest drive i can use with my PS3 FAT without any hardware modification is a 750GB 2.5 Drive 5200RPM 8mb, ineed to use the PS3's backup utility found in the XMB.
Now my PS3 is using a CFW (3.55KMEAW) now from what i've read if i'm gonna install a new drive in my PS3 it's going to ask for a new FW, can i still use an old 3.55 OFW? By the way i've been far too busy for a long time and i already forgot everything that i did with my ps3, can anybody pls hook me up with a step by step guide on having a clean "jailbreak" on my PS3 cause aside from the size of my HDD my PS3 is working flawlessly, all of my backups are working etc...thanks in advanced Last edited by j3yps; 10-12-2011 at 03:42 PM. |

FYI - there is also a 1TB drive available that fits the PS3 (9.5mm height).

Any laptop hdds with the regular size 5400 rpm is good to go. About the sata 2 or 3..etc..is not compatible with ps3 is urban legend since most of the latest brand's hdds have a backward compability to lower their speed to sata1 (unless the seagate momentus u need to manually set the jumper to 1.5). Also, samsung spinpoint has a tool that can make their hdd to work up to 1.5 speed)
According to some review/ ppl say on other forums, 7200 rpm can make a ps3 overheating ; some WD brands (above 500gb) have an issue on some games. About the step by step, if I am not wrong is; back up your games > back up your save games/etc..etc..(from the backup utility)> syn your trophy> 3.55 OFW > swap your hdd > OFW 3.55 > restore option > CFW > put your back up games you have on the new int hdd. BUT please anybody correct me IF I am wrong.

Anybody got the latest links for the files need to install KMEAW CFW? like patchers and stuff? really appreciate it guys.
Another question if i revert back to 3.55 OFW i can sync my trophies no problem? will the game saves, PSN and Game data be included in the backup process found in the XMB? |

It'skamel is a good/ an update tut here ( and he always response for any questions
) : http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=26677To be safe, syn (ftp) with your pc at the very beginning before you start anything, then back up your etc.....bla... About the psn..hm..I do not know (i don't think is included). Game saved, data...etc..is included. If you have many back up games, it'll take very long. I had 88gb on "back up utility > back up", I cancelled it because it says about 8 hrs; then, I did manually copy my save games to my usb ext. **Also, I did not go to ofw 3.55 instead directly to lates rogero cfw with 3.72 spoof then rogero 8.5 manager** ** THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED**^^^^^ I don't know the reason why, but many ppl here say to go back at OFW 3.55>swap>OFW3.55>restore bla bla (if needed) > CFW 3.55, put your own back up games back to int hdd. I have successfully upgraded my PS3's HDD to 1TB, for the benefit of others here's the procedure:
1. Backup your data using the PS3's BACKUP UTILITY found in the XMB (you should have an extra drive capable of holding your PS3's backup data and format it to FAT32) 2. Replace the drive 3. have your CFW ready, inster the drive with the CFW on and install it to your PS3. 4. restore the darta from the Backup enjoy! now if you want to back up and restore your TROPHIES whithout having to sync to PSN follow this it worked for me! http://gamerhacks.forumotion.com/t23...s3-without-psn here are the links for reference in this tutorial http://asia.gamespot.com/features/61...n-3-hard-drive http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=26677 |
