I pick and choose the bits I like from various religions...I guess I am closest to being a Buddhist Fundamentalist because I can agree with most of the things that the Buddha said, but not with the things that those who followed him made up. I guess I am also a Christian Fundamentalist in that regard...because I believe in peace and love and understanding (the teachings of Jesus); and not the stuff that christian churches made up to control people over the following 2000 years.

This one quote really sums up my beliefs:
“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”
― Marcus Aurelius

I'm a Taoist.

Taoism is a religion that originated in Asiatic countries, and dates back before Buddhism. Some beliefs of Taoism were actually incorporated into Buddhism. Which is why they have very similar belief systems. However, there are specific philosophical aspects of Taoism that are completely different from Buddhism.

The main philosophical belief that is derived from Taoism is the belief in ultimate balance. By balance I don't mean Karma. It's a belief in a balance between action and non-action. It is very similar to Quantum theory in a way. There are an infinite number of possibilities, decisions, and actions that can take place at any given time period. A person exhibits control over their life through a balance of action or non-action.

Trust me, it sounds more complicated than it truly is.

There is more to the belief/religion than what I have described. For example, the expression of humanity, humility, and piety.

I like the quote cheesethief. I view the world through an existentialist perspective in that life is what we make it. You can have a s***y life and be happy or even a fulfilled life and still be unsatisfied with it. It is what you make it and if religion is what is needed to give YOUR life meaning then more power to you. Personally I am very skeptical of just about everything and embrace various religions only for their moral values and not their literal interpretations. As Killerbug relatively mentioned, it is typically the religious source that is pure and not the interpretations of modern day followers. I think anything that holds power over people is bound to become corrupt, due to human nature, and religion is no exception.

That sounds like several religions which I will refrain from mentioning here.
