Booting issues
Just bought a YLoD'd 40GB second-hand PS3, turns out a screw was touching the metal motherboard casing causing the PS3 to shortcut into a YLoD.
Anyways, that problem sorted, the PS3 won't properly boot up. It boots, the optical drivs does something, stops, and the PS3 shuts down on it's own... Here's a video: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v1...t=IMG_2060.mp4 I opened the menu with the 6 options; 1. Restart System - For obvious reasons, I didn't do this. No use. 2. Restore Default Settings - Did this, accepted the propmp message "Are you sure...?", screen goes black and the console shut down after approximately 20 seconds... 3. Restore File System - Did this, same as #2. 4. Rebuild Database - Did this, again, message askes me if I'm sure, yes and a message says HDD can't be accessed... Dead HDD? Maybe. Tried another, same message. Dead SATA connectors? I don't know... 5. Restore PS3 System - Did this, same story as # 4... 6. System Update - Again, for obvious reasons, no. What the hell is going on? This PS3 getting on my nerves... I hope the HDD's SATA connnectors are not broken... I'd be screwed then... |

first, if the console is on 3.55 try updating it with 3.55 OFW... if it says corrupted file it may be a bad FW install... also, is there any disk inside the drive? try removing the drive and turning on the console, does it do anything? if it turns on without drive it's the drive shorting something... if it does the same blue light flashing without the drive, it probably have something shorted making it think it needs to read the disk, as the blue light flashing is due to the bd drive trying to read what's inside... give it a try with BD removed

Edit: Ok, I tried without the drive, it still doesn't fully boot up. And no flashing blue light either... I've also tried a different PSU (Power Supply Unit), same problem. Motherboard issue? Last edited by Bounkass; 10-20-2011 at 10:04 AM. |

i don't think so, i think it's more probably a bad FW flash... if you know what FW it's on, try update on the same FW... if it says pup file is corrupted then your only chance is a hardware flasher...

Edit: Right, I downloaded the lastest FW from the Sony website, and it's checking the USB stick now. But it's taking a while... Is that normal? FW 3.73. Still running smoothely, fingers crossed! I think you where actually right that the FW is the problem. If it was a hardware issue it probably woulden't've booted in the first place. Let alone turn itself off after attempting to to fire up the FW... Last edited by Bounkass; 10-20-2011 at 11:02 AM. |

yeah ^^ you can update from recovery menu... if it's showing a progress bar it's normal, if it's not then there might be some other problem ^^ if this works, you can check for my guide on reflowing, there are some tips to help preventing YLOD to come back...

I've been repairing YLoD's for a couple of years now. I guarantee my customers it doesn't come back after reflow. And it doesn't. Thanks though! I'll keep the thread updated. |

Well, apparently, something has gone "serious"ly wrong... The PS3 says: "A serious error has occured. Contact technical support for assistance. (8002F281)" ... |

i had a ps3 that got the same error.... it happens because people tell you to format your hard disk to exit an update loop. Maybe an hardware flasher can solve your issue, but i don't know of any way to fix it without it. I'm sorry...
