How come so many people dislike Lil Wayne?
I'm sure that the majority of this forum and just about everywhere else on the Internet aside from Lil Wayne fansites dislike him. What for? I haven't heard or seen any legitimate reason to dislike him. Most people say things like "he sounds like a chipmunk" or something stupid along those lines. How does that make him a bad rapper? I don't get it.
He can be lyrical when he wants to be. He doesn't suck, that's for damn sure. I just want to get the opinions of people who dislike him and please try not to say something stupid or irrelevant. Also I want you guys to watch this starting at 1:15. Video Lil Wayne Puts The Cup Down! FOLLOW ME ON WWW.TWITTER.COM/IMPRO1 i know what in the cup - YouTube Here are songs that I doubt many people will listen to but they're very lyrical so you can't say he isn't lyrical: |

By "his barking" are you saying that he doesn't try as hard now? To that I can agree to a very fine extent however it is not because he lost his skill, it's because he is choosing to not try as hard.

So I do not keep up with lil wayne but I do hear what is on the radio and what is played from my little sister's radio when I visit my parents from time to time. So I am giving my honest opinion and I understand that you are a big wayne fan so please do not take it personal. I am assuming this is not a problem on account of you creating this thread.
Now I do not "hate" lil wayne but I cannot say that I like him. I must say that Lil Wayne has come a very long way since his early career in regards to his lyrical content though. IMHO his earlier stuff to me just was not as clever and lacked meaning. His rhymes were very, for a lack of better words, childish to include rhyming one scentence with another scentence with the same word ect. Now I understand that some may think this cool but I can at least speak for some people down in the south west that this is not quality music. It sounded to me like the typical money, b****es, fame, and being gangsta dictated by poorly thought out rhymes. Now I had this discussion once with a lil wayne fan and he told me this is on account of him freestyling. If this is the case I think he should have written his music or worked on his freestyle. IMO very few rappers can get away with freestyling such as Big L and the members of Bone Thugs N Harmony. Now on a more optimistic note, Waynes rhymes these days are substantially better. He is much more clever and I am sure it is on account of him writing his music, assuming that was true that he didn't. He is really good at playing with multiple meanings of words, for example I recall him saying something like "I am a made n**** I should dust something". That is clever and very hiliarious and on a whole other level in comparison with his early works. Now to answer your question directly I think on account of Lil Waynes popularity his face depicts the new type of "rap" (I consider it more hip hop on account of the R&B style choruses). I imagine people do not like lil wayne on account of not liking this style of rap. I also think people dont like him on account of him being compared to people like Andre 3000. IMHO this is no comparison but only because I love Outkast. So basically what happens is you are comparing two different types of music and people take sides. Personally I just don't like his style. I prefer lyrical content with greater meaning and flows that only few can achieve. Yes Waynes voice is unique (so it requires a unique taste which can be another reason) and flow can be construed as unique, he is clever and funny now, but you just have to like that style I guess. Others might hate him because they are simply haters, but that is not my reasoning.

Actually I am a bit confused. Does everybody dislike him now? I thought he was at the top of the charts and what not? If he is declining in popularity its because his time has come, happens to just about everyone who doesn't die during their climax.

He's very popular right now. Topping charts and all that stuff. It's just for some reason a large group of online communities have the biggest gripe with him.
