There are a couple well known sites where you can download PS3 games. Most of these sites have all the new games such as Madden 12 and NBA 2K12.

These websites (and the games themselves) indicate they will only work with version 3.66 or 3.70.

It is my understanding that only CFW versions 3.41 and 3.55 can be jail-broken. I've been told (and so many others), that 3.66 and 3.7+ are impenetrable at this time.

If that is the case, why are games, which require 3.6+ being uploaded to these websites and made available for download?

Under what circumstance can these files be used?

Can they be downloaded, transferred to a HD inside a standard system running the latest official firmware? If so, are there instructions for this?

Or are the downloads just meant to be downloaded until someone provides a 3.55 patch?

I'm assuming the expert who responds will provide enough information so I can understand so I don't think I have any other questions. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the quick response. So, downloading these new games are a complete waste of time? I mean, that might sound obvious, but it just doesn't make much sense.

Can you explain to me what the rebug spoofer is meant for? I know rebug is the CFW, but I've seen some spoofer version 3.70 and assumed that allowed you to play games meant for 3.70. I guess I was wrong.

When someone gets the newer keys though, then they'll be able to decrypt those rips and actually play them. Until newer keys come out, they're 100% useless.

Thanks! One last question since I'm now going to only target certified 3.55 ISOs.....

If the link is marked as EUR region, does that mean I can't play it with a US (NTSC) console? If not, is there a workaround to this?

PS3 games are not region locked...I have both EU and JP games running on my NA machine and no mods are required...they even work with OFW 3.72

There's actually a couple of really good reasons.

1) People will have them to test once a new update comes out. Quite a few games did not work when they first came out, but once an update came out, since they were shared, users already had them on their HD and could test and see that they now work.

2) They will already be out there, and can be downloaded, ready to go. If a new cfw comes out 5 months from now, there won't be people scrambling all over the place saying "Hey can I get that one game that came out 7 months ago?". It will avoid a lot of waiting, clutter, and old games being released with new at the same time. Users will be ready to go.
