“The target opportunity was a revenge attack, initially — it was because we went after a hacker who hacked PlayStation,” he said. “PlayStation is vital to us, and so we were afraid that it would essentially destroy a PlayStation.”

Let's release the krakken and release those lv0 keys once and for all. What a prick

The funny thing is, the PS1 and the PS2 were both hacked and they are two of the best selling/popular consoles ever created(not counting portable consoles).

- First of all, that old retarded man does not understand that nobody cares about Sony.
If really anybody would give a... ...you know... ...this attack wouldn't happen at all.

- Second, everybody has now a bitter taste from Sony either if it's called a hacker or a (now ex-) loyal Sony costumer and this feeling is not going to fade away for the next 5-6 years for sure.
So revenge is the easy and unintelligent blame that they give to others.

-Third, I like the fact that he doesn't mention the reason why somebody would want revenge, obviously because they are aware and epicly ashamed of their acts and because that they are REAL CRIMINALS by doing things that humanity haven't seen 'till 2011. Yeah Sony, I speak of your decision to think that it's ok to just circumvent people and costumers of their rights and just get away with this. They call it strategy to protect their console but everybody else, knows, and call it with it's name, constructed conspiracy, misuse of power and breach of human and costumer rights.

Here you got your answer, can you comment on my points Sony?
I dare you to.

Why should we pity a company that uses root kits and removes features from it's products with "upgrades" ?

Ps3 was not publicly hacked for years until Sony stepped out of line by removing otheros

You can't fire the first shot and complain because you lose the war

The guy doesnt know what he's talking about, as usual the media is trying to demonise all hackers.

Yeah at first it was for revenge, but that was before the psn hacking et al. When those trying to get revenge on $ony found an published that $ony were using outdated security, organised criminal hackers just couldnt pass up the opportunity to hack such a gold mine.

Once they got into PSN and saw just how bad and outdated the security was, I mean plain text passwords?!!! :O The hackers had everything they needed to commit fraud with those details!

With such bad security on the PSN, they obviously figured that other less popular sites would have less security than that! It turned into a frenzy to hack as many $ony owned sites and steal the customer data.

The criminal hackers got what they wanted, and best of all, anonymous and the hackers who wanted revenge for $ony being $ony, were there to not only take the blame, but would be considered the main suspects. It was the perfect crime, like the vault door being opened with the security guard sleeping inside.

A lot of us hate $ony now, even I having bought the PS1, PS2, PSP and the PS3, hate $ony that I wouldnt even consider buying a PS4 now. This is why I find it hard to believe that there are still devs out there who refuse to continue hacking the PS3 cos I think the best way for us to show $ony our new-found "loyalty" is to let the pirates at it!
I've read in other forums that once loyal fanboys now refuse to buy any game and will pirate them instead, thanks to the way $ony has treated them.
I would have thought a lot of hackers would be trying to destroy the PS3 and help keep up with $ony's updates. But I guess the hackers are happy to see a large corporation screw their customer.....I really do wish I was a talent dev/hacker so that I could have the pleasure of doing it myself.

To sum up: $ony deserve everything they get now!!!

So laughing my ham off, now most of the people involved in hacking has at least 2, sometimes also 4-5 consoles... How did that make Sony a victim? Because the number of copies sold pr console dived?

I bet the point is that for the PS3 they wasted tremendous amounts of money on some anti piracy measures and the equation did not add up.
