ps3 slim's fan makin high pitched whining sound
my ps3 slim cech 2506 A-- is making high pitched sounds i know its from fan cuz i already removed disc and and hdd and its from fan . It was quiet for a week after that it produced that annoying sound , its not loud but i m concerned cuz i dont want it to go ylod , it goes like when i turn the console on its quiet after 20 sec the fan switches to level 2 and starts whining it stays on lvl 2 no matter how long i play usually its 3 hours + . Anyone else having same problem ? BTW i read on av forum that sony is using 17 inch fan on the slim instead of 19 inch fan in 60 or 80 gig or 40 fat models maybe thats y it has to work extra hard or its a faulty fan dunno
my 60 gig launch made a hum sound dunno wats wrong slim

Hmm I doubt its 17 inches lol that is huge....lol. The fan is probably picking up because of heat. The slim if I recall correctly doesn't have the lead free solder cracking problem, so YLOD isn't going to be the case for a while if that's the case. I guessing its more of a dust build up and causing bad airflow.

The slim does YLOD because of lead-free solder; it just hasn't happened as much as the fats because they are newer. What kind of whine is it making? If it is just louder then it is probably bad thermal compound. If it sounds totally different, you might have a bad fan bearing.

If it's level 2, I think there is nothing to worry about. Unless the fan is bad...

There is no fixing a fan bearing in one of these fans; you would just have to buy a replacement fan. |
