Bluetack is something i got from my lecturer at university in electronics 101 . as for the OIL in the bluetack not a problem as long as you let it cool down before you try to take it off the board as it goes sticky and stringy when hot, and it hardens back up when cold so it's easy to get off.

I did wonder about leaving so much exposed myself but it did not seem to affect anything at all, if i was to do it next time i would cover the fan plugs as they went a little brown. as for my opinion i figured that well if everything is covered up it may not heat up evenly and some parts would be cooler than others and may lead to an uneven re flow or focus to much head on one area.
that's what i was thinking anyway. as most of them parts would get that hot anyway with cod marathon

No problem i was doing it for my self so i did not forget over time but... it turned into a tutorial so i decided to share with everyone.

Cheers, Glad i could help.

Just then i did the gpu in a laptop, a GO 7900gs that had artifacts and it's working fine now. I did 200c at 5 minutes as it's tiny, quite happy actually that it's working again.

Heya,

First of, thank you for making this tutorial.

I just tried this yesterday on a CECHG03 40GB (PAL), but it sadly didn't work for me.

My oven was pre-heated at 200C then I did put the PS3 mobo in it for 10 minutes.

I cleaned the heatsinks with 99% isopropanol alcohol. Then I applied Silver Artic 5 like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eytRmdhl4oc

I also used the No Clean Flux and applied it correctly regarding several youtube videos.

I covered everything (plastic and caps) with Blutack (And the shiny foil side up). And I also removed the battery, and covered it with Blutack and foil as the holder was plastic.

But it returned me a YLOD.

So I tried it again today but letting the oven pre heat at 200C for a even longer time. Then put the PS3 mobo in there and put the temperature to 210C or so.

Repeating the process above..

But it still gave me a YLOD.
I even tried a other power supply. From a CECHC04 60GB (PAL), but again it still gave me a YLOD.

Any ideas? I really want to get it to work now... hehe

I used to be strongly against oven repairs for the YLOD after seeing all the tutorial vids on youtube, but after reading this I will recommend this tutorial to anyone interested in this method.
You took precautions with all the sensitive components which most tutorial vids do not do. and you included many tips to care for the ps3 when finished.
Very nice work --5 stars all around---

Oven baked YLOD Fixes. Whats next a magnifying glass and the sun to heat the motherboard. A fault to that is how would you regulate the temps you're utilizing.

Don't talk smack about it. It is far easier to evenly warm the motherboard all the same temp than to do some half assed paint stripper reflow.

I fixed my YLOD PS3 1 month ago and modded the case to let better airflow and always keep it standing upright in the tower position and it runs like a champ.

If you knew anything about motherboard manufactures, then you would know that they bake motherboards to solder the components to the board lmao.

How Motherboards Are Made (Part 1) - YouTube

Anyway, here is the post I made on another forum the day that I followed this very tutorial, and saved a 80gb(upgraded to 320gb) bc Phat PS3 my brother had since 2008 he bought new, and was given to me for free. So score for me.

So I just cooked my PS3 in the oven...

.... and it works!

I stripped the motherboard down, took off the thermal pads and paste, and wrapped it up in Aluminum foil at 400F/200C for 10 mins and let it cool off to room temperature and rebuilt it.

I am SO happy I fixed my Yellow Light of Death problem myself and hope it lasts for a very long time!

You seriously have no idea how satisfying it was to turn it on and see no red flashing light!

So basically I got this 80gb BC PS3 Phat with all the bells and whistles for free from my bro!

Now I just gotta figure out how to make it display on my SDTV since my bro had it on HDMI. Also as soon as I start the damn thing it auto connects to the net over Wifi and tries to auto update and I have no controller to stop the process from the TV in the living room.

I gotta get a controller ASAP but eh I am just so glad the thing works! :ugeek:

Looks like I might be sourcing the 300gb hdd in my Sony Vaio for this puppy. I just hope the firmware doesn't update and it is low enough to mod.

If anybody else wants to follow the guide I did to get theirs back up and running go here.

http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=30305
I work on and build gaming PC's, so I can say with 100% certainty this does in fact work, as my PS3 is the proof of it.

Just wanted to say thanks to the creator of this awesome tutorial, this fixed my PS3 and I can't thank you enough!

@Anthony817 Simply making a joke of new creative ways people may utilize to fix their YLOD. Each method has trial and error, for example this process been *perfected*. Of course the guy probably before researched/or had knowledge of what he was doing to contemplate this affordable reliable technique.

Yeah, I know. Sorry I wasn't trying to be an ass but many people don't realize how well this method works if done exactly right.

Sad to hear it didn't work for the other guy above, it must be some other hardware failure?
