PS: Did you try connecting the cable that had 2 good and 2 open and see if you can set the 1000Mbps/1.0Gbps option???

I see a few likely possibilities here:
1.) Your network adapter is made by Broadcom; even if it was working at 1gbps, it would be unstable at these speeds. These devices rely heavily on the CPU to do all the heavy lifting, and thus any little disruption from a windows service or something can throw off a sustained transfer. You can get a decent Intel hardware gigabit adapter cheap these days. 2.) Your cable to the PS3 or to the PC might be crummy. Technically Cat-5E should work, but spend the extra $0.50 to get Cat6 with molded ends. 3.) Your hub/router might be crummy, or might have an outdated firmware. |

Um...I use broadcom myself on my brothers computers and does Giga just fine, so the likely hood of that be crappy is at least in my experience almost none. The cable I have learned in my Cisco class can make a difference in networking so that might be a cause. Also to state is the he is doing a direct connection from the computer to the PS3 so there is not a router or hub issue. Honestly I'm confused as hell about all this lol and im usually good at these things but this time its just driving me crazy, KillerBug more assistance on this issue would be great because I'm sick and need to get to bed...

I missed the crossover cable bit. If he is using an older crossover cable, then that is almost certainly the problem. 100mbps crossover cables WILL NOT do gigabit speeds because they swap the wrong wires to the wrong spots.

And check the diagram under, "Gigabit T568B crossover" to make sure it is a real gigabit crossover cable. [edit] BTW...there is no such thing as 100 MB (megabyte) networking. Networking is all don in bits, not in bytes. Gigabit networking = 125MB. Last edited by KillerBug; 11-27-2011 at 09:17 PM. |

Never even got started; the first step was to get the cooling up to snuff...but one of my TECs quit on me and killed the CELL (which cannot be replaced). I will say that my initial idea for changing the clock (with dry ice) did not work.

@TizzyT
@KillerBug I am now 90% sure that the cable makes me the problem, first, the test showed that only 2 pairs are good, second like i said here are the cables cheap and i didn't saw anywhere cat6 to buy, just this cat5e, and third, they have all like 500 m of the cable in one thing, and then when you buy you say how much you need and they just cut it off and then they use some tool to get the heads on again, that's the problem i think :/ Will see if i can find some shop or service that sells better quality cables

Hahaha YEAH GOT 1 GIGABIT NOW :D
like i said before i have here 8 PC-s, so i looked at the cables of all, and found 3-4 black (looking better) on which stands Cat5e 100 MHz ..... So i tried to connect that cable to my PC and to the PS3 straight, and know what, it says that it is 1000 Mb/s :D Finally :D @TizzyT It was the second cable that i tested with the broadcom tool, which said 2 pairs good 2 pairs open :D ************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* Ok, have tested it now, i still don't have the 1000 Mb/s option in my network card's properties just 100 Mb/s (but i checked "auto"), but the broadcom tool tells that it is 1000 Mb/s and the cable test says at all 4 pairs that they are 1Gigabit Links when connected to my PS3 Tried now to transfer a game that has big files, the transfer went now 20,000 KB/s to 25,000 KB/s, that's more then double the speed that i got earlier, and i can say it's enough, in Kb that's 160000 Kb/s to 200000 Kb/s (15% - 19% of 1 Gb) Earlier i was just getting max 11,000 KB/s = 88000 Kb/s (8% of 1 Gb) lol everything calculated to detail here : http://www.matisse.net/bitcalc/?inpu...otation=legacy

PS: yeah I use MBps this time around as I'm more comfortable, plus I was also talking about HDD speeds so it might be kinda confusing switching between the 2.
