Don't bin it, either sell the undamaged parts or send it to sony for a Ł99 refurb if you have the cash to spend

RSOD is either a HDD or NAND/NOR issue.
First thing you should try is using a different hard drive.
If that doesn't work, this is more complicated. You MIGHT be able to recover it with a flasher, but this can't be guaranteed.

Goddamn RSOD, I've been pestering different threads with mine too. Hope there will be a software solution for these one day. Would be great if we could enter/exit factory mode on more recent firmwares because I heard downgrading might save them.

But try pulling out and format the hdd on your pc or external dockingstation or try another hdd.

Might be a loose cable to bluray or other component too, check those.

Also try updating to 3.73 again, using recover menu. That's all I can think of, hope some of it might work.

Thanks Guy for your replies.

FYI - Actioned so far

Installed new hard drive
Formatted with a PC
Downgraded to 3.72
Upgraded back to 3.73
Checked all cables

All of the above makes no change.
Time to look into a flasher

Wht do you mean by "downgraded to 3.72", that's not possible since you're on 3.73.

I think 3.73 is just a remake of 3.72 but with a few fixes for certain ps3s that were having some issues, maybe both firmwares have the same keys so you can switch back to 3.72 if your ps3 didnt need the fixes
