Why do we need to format...?

When we connect our HDD to our PC or whatever, why do we need to format it? Can't we just find the HDD encryption key or w/e it is to stop it from happening?

Then this way, there wont be any need for CFW to host hacks (:

EDIT: Just because it's my first post doesn't mean I'm an idiot ;o

Don't forget, you once didn't know much

The PS3 HDD is encrypted. The only way to get rid of that encryption is to run OtherOS++ and run some files. Whether you will be able to read it on a PC, I do not know, but you would be able to stick it into any PS3 without the need of formatting it.

From it though, you would not be able to find anything useful.

You could still host hack lobbies and stuff for cod or host hacks for bf3. You could also possibly place games in the XMB, but possibly wont work.

Where would you host those lobbies? LAN? CFW has no access to PSN at the moment. Also hacked lobbies exist even without messing with the HDD and on OFW...

Where would the files be for you to host? On the HDD, they have no need to be on the NAND/NOR. If there was enough space for all the multiplayer games, which there isn't, people could probably execute a 'homebrew' to read then write to the NAND/NOR possibly.

it is possible to decrypt a CFW PS3 HDD with graf_chokolo his tools on OtherOS++, only problem is the file-system itself... It is probably a modified UFS2 filesystem and can only be read by another PS3 in the decrypted state.

Most comparable is the Mac filesystem. The Mac filesystem can only be read with special utilities like MacDrive on windows...

Hope this helped
